Description Anime Sci-Fi DiD scene; Pencil & Paper.

Yuriko, bugged that Lt. Kim was late, this time very late, to her shift on the Soyokaze, goes looking for her, after getting the anger-inducing lazy brush off from Captain Justy Ueki Tylor. But soon she goes missing as well.

Azalyn, with free run of the ship per Captain Tylor despite her P.O.W. status, decides to once again try to convince him to be with her. Not finding him on the bridge, she walks to his quarters. Upon no answer, she enters, and doesn't find Tylor, but finds Lt. Kim and Yuriko tied up, gagged, and struggling inside. Hesitating for just a moment to take the scene in, Yuriko's *mmph*ing is not enough to warn Azalyn of the presence directly behind her...

I have to admit, I really enjoyed this Anime, "The Irresponsible Captain Tylor". I am not a fan really of Space Anime, but there are a few that I enjoy. And let's face it...when you have young & attractive gals in varying short skirts and boots, coming up with a DiD scenario followed soon after.

My thoughts:

Azalyn, Goza the 16th: Now, of course Azalyn is younger than my normal boundaries (i.e. 18 years old). But she isn't tied up, right? Well, at least not yet in this scene My biggest challenge with her was to pace her height correctly in the background, keeping in mind that she is shorter than the others. Her outfit was actually fairly easy.

Lieutenant Kyon Hwa Kim: I didn't really like Kim's hair, but the rest of her? Awesome! She's a fashion model and an officer at the same time, and thus wears non-regulation variations on her uniform - high knee boots, opera gloves, and various jewelry. My toughest parts of her was her flowing hair, and the position...for the first time, I tried a behind the back viewpoint on her, with the idea that she is looking at her predicament. I love when the damsels look back distressingly at their situation.

Lieutenant Commander Yuriko Star: I like Tsundere characters, and although Yuriko is not the exact representation, she does come around eventually, despite the ridiculous scenario on the ship that she is commanded into. My challenges for her was her legs and hair. I am not satisfied with the legs placement, but I can fix it in photoshop...I didn't want to ruin what I already had, especially since I got her hiking style boots correct. As for her hair...I dunno why I couldn't get it better to my references...perhaps I can fix that later in a coloring too.

Villain: I just love coming-out-of-the-shadows-unknown captors, don't you? Heh heh

Scene: I had Tylor's quarters mostly pegged, due to a couple critical references. I decided not to make it messy so that the DiDs can attract all the attention. But I think my toughest challenge here was that I make the foreground characters smaller than I wanted...I think I can fix that in PS later as well. My style is better when I do close ups, but as I have been out of the artistry scene for a little while, having this kind of practice with a smaller scale has been helpful.

So, yes, I am finally back, and thus I need feedback! Comments are always welcome!

Thanks!

If I do wind up improving upon this with color in Photoshop at a later date, I think I can really make it look close to the series.

"But I think my toughest challenge here was that I make the foreground characters smaller than I wanted..."

i think this is the main problem with the picture - because the figures in the foreground are so small, the perspective doesn't quite work (look at the sharp angle you have drawn the cupboards in the background at, then think what angle the floor should be at where the girls are.) thankfully, as you say, this shouldn't be too hard to fix in ps.
this also has the effect of creating a lot of negative space in the picture, which you could think about reducing by making the characters in the foreground larger or choosing an angle which leaves you with fewer blank areas.

anyway, the girls themselves are cute, and it's good to see more pics from you

Look for me to re-size Lt. Kim and Yuriko in the future to fix this...at least when I was halfway through, I knew what I had done, yet I didn't want to erase and try all over again, as I figure this is a teachable moment.

My next work? Don't worry the characters will be good size

i know the feeling... that's one reason why i moved from drawing on paper to sketching with a tablet - it's laborious and lacks the freedom of a pencil, but it does make it a lot easier to resize and redo things without too much effort.
