jchanders — How a great morning began

Description Christmas day had brought perfect mild weather with a lot of sunshine here, and yesterday began the same way. Only in the afternoon the sky clouded heavily and some "wet snow" started to fall.
This shot was taken shortly after sunrise at the Loosdrechtse Plassen, beautiful big lakes some 4 to 10 miles west of Hilversum/The Netherlands. Lakes that are great for boating, for fishing and - at certain places - for swimming. And in the winter for dreamlike scating. Oh, if we had such a winter again ... and if only I was young again!

yessssssssss the composition is perfect, very pleasing to the eye, the clouds complete a visual circle that focuses the view. the sun is great just behind those trees as well !! And there is your trademark-bird in the shot as well

A fav! A fav! I managed to get another one from you! Many, many thanks!
And let me tell you: all that trouble in tempting those birds to come into the picture again in time! Not to speak about those clouds!

Another winning shot. This has such a strong morning -as opposed to evening - light and feel. (Sorry to be so late with my comments but I have got so far behind over the last three weeks it is going to take me till Easter to catch up!)

Thanks a lot for keeping up. Rather late than never! Actually I know the feeling by now. The price of getting "too" popular!
But is great, of course, that you are so positive.
Many thanks for both favs, too!

Well, you have to take some trouble to find the spots like this. Staying in bed is easier! I know, in your case it is the kids that chase you out of bed. In my case that is long ago ... but sometimes I feel the urge, and I am glad you like the result of that morning!

I wander for hours around the woods when I get the chance looking for good views .. it's just difficult with very young children, they get fed up after a while and although they'll walk a good couple of miles or so, much more than that and they start to whine .. and of course we don't have any water anyway!

I realize that things are not so very easy with this life period that you are in now. On the other hand, we had three little ones ... and I sometimes wish I could go back. It is a difficult time in many ways, too, and I no longer know how we coped, but it was also so enjoyable, so much love, so much joy, so much fun ... And it passed so quickly!

It's made much harder by my husband being away from home on business so much .. it's sad because he misses out on so much. You are of course right, at present Liesl, my 2 1/2 year old, is asleep on my knee .. she won't do it for very much longer which will be sad, they grow so quickly .. it is one of the main reasons that I am a stay at home mother .. these formative years are so important I think, as did my mother and the 4 of us have turned out pretty okay I think!

Yes, I think you made a very wise decision! It is not always easy, but I am old-fashioned enough to think that it is better for the kids, too. I pity your husband! It must be hard for him! But sometimes things cannot be helped, I fear.
Take care. And do have fun! Lots of it!

Very nice shot. Interesting that you mention the lake no longer freezing over. I have also observed a warming in the climate since the days of my childhood, and I am still quite young! I recently heard a statistic on the local news, saying that now five Decembers in a row have been above normal in temperature, with a total of eight out of the last 10 being above normal. The exceptions being the years of 1996 and 2000. I also remember seeing lakes and ponds freeze up solid and having plenty more snow in the winters while growing up.

Yes, there seems to be a real change. But I just looked up the dates of the "Eleven-towns-tour", the most famous Dutch or better Frisian scating tour, and while the last one was in 1997, there were also long stretches between the others. For the fun of it I give you the short English version of the text in Wikipedia: [link]

I read the article. It is very interesting to see how these events are planned on such short notice. You are right about the large gaps between them; and yet I still sense that there has been a change in the climate, as you tend to agree.

lovely shot, you did well, it is difficult to take shots towards the sun and not have other aspects of the image ruined by the light

Fortunately the sun was just behind those trees on the left. Otherwise the mirroring might have indeed spoiled the picture.

Gorgeous, simply uplifting, truly. The colors are so vivid and the silhouettes of the trees aren't glared out by the sun. It looks so calm and peaceful and such a lovely reflection in the water. Now by saying you aren't so young anymore...what do you consider old....should I be calling you sir?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jchanders In reply to funygirl38 [2005-12-28 08:56:31 +0000 UTC]

Never call me Sir. I am older than most people I met on DA, apart from my old friend Giorgio who is 79 and still has a young mind! What a shining example!
And if you really want to know it: I am 62

funygirl38 In reply to jchanders [2005-12-28 21:32:52 +0000 UTC]

Goodness, Maybe older but not old by any standards. Please forgive the sir comment then, I was taught to respectfully address adults....of course, adults now being what I am. I am, myself, 38. I will call you friend, then.

Take care
