Description Today it was a rather grey October day. On such a day it is good to let the thoughts wonder back to the summer vacation. After all there are quite a few shots waiting in my summer collection to be shown on wet and grey autumn and winter days.
This one was taken near Surendorf in Schleswig-Holstein, just in time before the wheat was harvested completely.

I have been traveling in the car plenty lately, and keep wanting to take photos of crops and the countryside - so thank you for taking a picture that I would like to take but have not made the time for yet!

It looks interesting. Stright lines on the wavy filed.
Good work!

The long shadows are really great.

My first idea was indeed 'This doesn't look very Dutch' while most of your pictures are taken in Holland, right? The lines and the different shades of yellow makes it interesting. Even the shadows of the trees are in the same pattern and there is a balance between harvested pieces and still standing crop. Still I can't figure out what it is missing. Maybe this just makes it all too static? No flying bird in the sky, or a highlight anywhere?

Hello !
sure I haven't been very present on DA lately but I still admire your work - - strangely I noticed I faved it less - your pictures are still more than very good, but the more I watch them, the more I realise the place where you live really looks like the one I live in, in a way I admire your picture, but I bored with Normandy - I live there (pays de Bray) every day of my life and haven't been able go in holidays for years so........ but how can northern germany look like Normandy so deeply (except for the sea : we have white clifts ans stone instead of sand ... but if we go juste a hundred miles North we have sand and dunes as well).

Anyway Bravo for your too Normandish pictures

Many thanks.
Your long statement puts up some difficult questions.
1) As to Normandy, I only visited it once and loved it.
2) Finding the beauty in the world near is the great challenge, I find. I keep trying this for years here in the Netherlands (I only go up to North Germany for a few weeks each year).
3) Geographically and geologywise Normandy and Schleswig-Holstein differ quite a bit. You already mention the coasts. But as both have rather low hills and a lot of slightly undulating countryside, there are quite some similarities in forms. I remember the little valleys though as a lot steeper than they are up in Schleswig-Holstein (it is all moraines up there, no rocks at all). The Pays de Bray looks interesting enough to me when I read the Wikipedia artikel on it: [link]
So do not give up looking for the beauty of your country!

you are quite right ! I just wanted to point I still think your pictures are marvellous ... but lately I faved ... new zeelander or south africans pictures not because they were any better than yours just the oxygen I needed !

the forest in your picture is so exactly like the one I go through twice ou tree times a day ... with the same marvellous light and beeches an all (and if you say they are not beeches it's just a problem of vocabulary, I am not good at names of trees but I know a beech when I see one). We (France) are often linked with southern europ, be what I see aroud me looks more like denmark than south of France ... every thing south of the Loire River seems more different or strange to me than everything between Rennes and KΓΈbenhavn and it has nothing to do with the fact that many persons in Normandy feel a link with the vikings who once owned the place !

for the pays de bray most my landscape picture are from there : you can say it's very different from North german, or Denmark from a scientific point of view ... not from a stupid-as-me tourist point of view !

and by the way thanks for the time you took to answer me !

Keep enjoying your forests. And I was glad to renew my little bit of knowledge about Normandy. A great pity that I only went there once.
All the best,
Juergen

That was a great capture...the lighting is perfect and the pattern and textures created by the wheat crop (partially harvested) forms an interesting design. Thanks for sharing with us.
