It's finally done! I have been working on this for about three weeks now. Originally I had an entirely different concept for this, but it wasn't coming together just right. I had worked so hard on the background, though, so I decided to keep the background and use it for something else. I had wanted to do something with the song "My Immortal" by Evanescence for awhile and after browsing some horse stock I got this idea.
I love it and I don't love it. I am really proud of how this turned out but I still feel like it's missing something.
Maybe I'm just too picky.Let's see, with the background I added the sky, then the mountains. Then I spent ages working with the castle. It was hell to cute out but I like how it looks.
Then I cut out the horses. I started with the one on the ground. Painted both the mane and tail from scratch and I love how they look. I don't love the cloud horse's mane quite as much but I still like it. Then I painted in the dark clouds. Those are always fun. And OMG I can't believe I forgot the shadow!!!!!
I just noticed that again!!!!!The horse in the clouds is supposed to be a spirit. I was originally going to make him transparent but I didn't like how that looked. His presence is supposed to be very strong, the other horse still feels him as if he's still around. Keeping him solid like this not only looks better in my opinion, but also helps emphasize that.
I also love how the text turned out. I spent forever getting that right.
Comments and favs are always loved and critiques are more than welcome. Although I rarely go back and rework finished manips I always take your critiques into consideration for my future pieces. Unless, of course, you tell me to add a shadow. If you do that I'll try to take it into consideration but there's a 50% chance I'll forget.

Great concept! The words are perfectly placed and the images go great together.
The only thing I can see to change would be some of the smoke, there's a bit too much dark in the middle of the picture. Maybe have it go more to the right? Anyway, very neat manipulation!

Dude, like, the horse that's falling on top of the other horse is kind of weird...I mean just the concept. The actual prettiness and work you did on it is awesome. And everything fits together perfectly, and I love the castle in the background.

i love the background, all of it! i just think the castle should be a little blurred/fogged up, because of the distance. it's too striking and draws the attention from the horse, who's supposed to be the main character. also, the fact that the main horse is very dark doesn't help.
but the clouds and the mountains, it's all so perfectly blended in, i couldn't believe they weren't together from the begining! O_O
the main horse is very well cut, and the mane & tail are perfect, so i barely noticed the lack of shadow!

besides the castle, the spirit horse is the weirdest part. the concept is amazing, the pic is probably the best for the job and the "dark smoke" looks great (how the heck did you do that?! O_O). the problem must have something to do with the way the horse is positioned. was it supposed to be like a spirit that possessed the main char? if that's the case, the spirit should be facing to the left. not sure if that would help, but.... if not (if it's just a memory, or a ghost) i might look better with less definition on the legs and overall more transparent. i'm not sure that any of these solutions would help (and probably you tried them all before sticking to the present), but it's all i can think of.
anyway, it's an awesome work, with a great concept! *faves*

That makes a lot of sense that the castle should be a little blurrier. 
As for the smoke, I made it using brushes I got here: [link] I painted them on in black, then went over it in grey. For some reason I always have fun making smoke like that.

It might look better to have the dark clouds extending to either the left or right corner; right now he just looks like a mole popping its head out of the ground...except...upside down? o-0; I think the "missing" thing might have something to do with the perspective of the ground...dunno though, can't really put my finger on it. >> ...Sexy as Hell mountains and castle though. <333

ooooooooo I like it :] The cloud horse really scres me. it's like it is falling out of the sky -shivers- and yeah no shadow but your feet are great, the mane and tail a re beautiful, and the background blending looks good, castle is a little bright and the bottom is a bit cloudly almost i guess? haha but overall very very nice darling <3

I guess the castle is a little bright. It was even brighter before, and then I made the whole image darker, I probably should have made the castle even darker after that. And yeah, I see what you mean about it being cloudy at the bottom. I'm pretty sure that's how the original hill part of the background looked, and then putting the castle there just made the cloudiness stand out more. Lol, I'm not making excuses, I swear!
