The horse is so very smooth and beautiful, and I love its mane. Don't you hate pouring yourself into something only to abandon it? It happens to me a lot. xD

You are very good in cutting the horse out, it looks almost real

lovely dearie. I love that horse too<3
Since it's just a WIP, I'll refrain from a indepthly long crit.
First, the lighting is a bit backward, since the light is coming from the back and on the horse it is from the front, not overly noticable since he's not very shiny, that could be fixed if you decide
A shadow of course.
That's really all I have. I hate the nasty looking bushes on the right, but it would be a ton of work to kill them :] overall lovely, I hope you keep workign on it a bit<3

very good picture, indeed!
my first though when i saw this was "hey, it's a grulla garrano!" (garrano is breed of wild ponies from north portugal - and the one i want the most!). the background looks remarkably like their natural environment, and the horse has the perfect pose to be expected from a wild pony stallion! though they don't usualy come in grulla, unfortunately.
ahem... so, now for the technical aspects of the picture. the horse is beautifuly done, obviously a lot of work was put into it! very well smudged/cloned/painted where it was needed, magnificently extended mane and tail (though the mane lost those sexy grulla white streaks and the tail could be darker) and cleverly hidden hooves. due to the very uneven ground, the shadow would be barely noticeable, so if you forgot about it again, don't feel bad!
but it's sad that the background sports a beautiful blue sky (sugesting strong sunlight) and the horse has such little shades/shines (both because of the dull nature of his coat, and because of the original horse's setting - cloudy sky). it feels a bit... off, like the horse wasn't supposed to be there, no matter how cute it looks.
my advice would be to make (by increasing contrast or dodge/burn faking) stronger shadows on the horse, choose a background with less obvious good weather, or remove that blue sky by de-saturating it to greyness and sprinkling a couple of rain clouds.
but other than that, it's a gorgeous picture and a very well done composition!
PS.: yay for huge comments!
