Grand old engine, lovely look to it!

Re firing? The LNER-pattern fire door is somewhat smaller and higher up than GW (which had a different type of shovel in any event). Furthermore, Tornado (as a much later design) has a larger/longer grate so to properly cover it you have to propel the coal further - not easy with a smaller hole and a lack of experience!

I have a Bachmann model of her in this livery, I find it a far more attractive livery than 'Indian red' frames...

Lovely shot though!

I do rather like the red frames; a bit unusual for British locos. The design is good in any GW livery (or even lined BR black...!).
Thanks and ta for the fave.

Btw can I ask something? I liked the job you did adding a face to Tornado - I've just uploaded pics of Evening Star ('the new girl') and 'Percy'; would you consider doing something similar to them please? Thanks.

If you have a messenger or email, let me know in note. I reckon I could do something with them.

She's a grand engine; I've briefly fired her twice. Didn't half slip when double-heading with Nunney Castle - I almost fell against the backhead!

im just glad you didn't fall forwards towards the fire box, I wish i could fire an engine but then I don't think I would have the strengh to do it

The backhead is the rear of the firebox. Warm!
I don't have much strength either, hence only briefly - just sufficient to say I've done it. Easier to fire than Tornado I might add...

oh right sorry about that my engine terminology isn't very good im afraid, I wouldn't mind having a go at firing tornado.

Don't worry about it.
Tornado wasn't bad, though I might add that footplate viz is atrocious (akin to the A4s) - much prefer GW, or even early Victorian (Beattie etc)!!!

Why is it cramped or something?

The little ones have plenty of charm too; can't beat a nice Peckett.
