The Sperm Whale is one of the largest carnivores to have ever lived, with teethe more than half a foot long. But according to my distinctly un-academic research, there are few counts of the mighty animal harming human beings, and even then, only if attacked. I’ve even heard anecdotes of them hunting Bowhead or Right whales in conjunction with predatory human.

But here we instead have Livyatan melvillei, another Sperm whale extinct on Earth, where it is known from only a single skull, even if that one was almost intact. 60 feet and 60 tons of bad attitude with teeth more than a foot long, the Livyatan has little to fear from the Megalodon it shares its waters with, and it is very much not a gentle or temperate animal. Sperm whales may ram boats on occasion, either out of curiosity or self-defence, but Livyatan seems actively bad-tempered and malicious, and in most cases is very familiar with fishing boats and individuals sapient creatures and how to deal with them. Peoples of the southern islands and coastline often worship the creature as a living god, taking to the sea in their canoes carved from sequoia to range far out of sight of land in pursuit of one. The hunter who can bring one down, via a cast thrust of the harpoon to the eye or temple, may alone carry the title ‘godslayer’, a name fully as revered as it sounds.
