Biography

Selaccene is a freelancing engineer who roams from land to land, offering her expertise in designing and fabricating weapons, vehicles, special facilities, and more- so long as her customers can afford her price. Selaccene also isn't your typical vortixx. Unlike most- who live to seize profit and personal gain- Selaceene is an engineer at heart with an aspiration to create, and to exercise her brilliant mind and exceptional skills. This passion, however, is bound tight within a heart of steel. When conducting business, she is very shrewd and straightforward, wasting no time with schemes or haggling and getting her work done with cool efficiency. If asked to describe herself, Selaccene would use one word: superior. To complement her exceptional skills, she posseses valuable connections to resources and her own private workforce; in other words, she IS her own business. She doesn't need shadowy plots or backstabbing to get what she wants, and she doesn't stoop to satisfy the demands of customers or partners (of which she has none). Her price is high because she knows her worth, and her expectations for her workers are high as well, with no tolerance for laziness or foolery.

Selaccene has no shortage of enemies. She's refused powerful people; she's put down customers who attempted to cheat her; she's even scorned by her own people, who look down on her "lack of cunning and ambition" and are envious of her success. Because of this, Selaccene is prepared for a fight. He workforce consist fully of male vortixx- eager for better opportunity outside of their oppressive culture- well armed and trained to double as mercenaries. As for herself, she carries a razor whip and arm-mounted Rhotuka launcher that fires Shock Spinners to immobilize her opponents.

Figure Blabber

During the drafting of Cyro's Story, it became apparent that some characters outside the Brotherhood of Makuta were needed to help my main antagonist. I decided to mix things up a bit, and I decided to use a vortixx because they had the resources and skill sets most useful to the evil plans in motion. But I wanted said vortixx to stand out from the typical vortixx image: not a selfish, seductive schemer with a body bio-fans would die for. So, I decided to write the complete opposite: a serious engineer who don't need no man wrapped around her finger to get what she wanted, and I incorporated that concept into her design as well. When building her, the primary goal was to take inspiration from Roodaka's, but seek ways to acquire a unique turnout. Sure, I wanted her to be a LITTLE feminine just to make her... well, a moc that looked feminine. But I didn't waste time going overboard with it.

When I first built Sellacene, I gave her a primarily white color scheme (as shown here ) so that she'd stand stand out visually. But after some research, I learned that for vortixx, black is actually their DEFAULT skin color, with any other colors being highlights. I could have made a creative decision and said, "Screw it, my vortixx will be an albino," but I didn't want to tweak the Bionicle canon more than I had to. Instead, I modified Selaccene with a black base color and used white as a decoration color, with a hint of silver to break the monotony. Another detail I noticed was that vortixx don't have "hair", but what we see Roodaka wearing is a form of headdress. I decided to play with that concept to make Selaccene stand out even more, completely abandoning the original "Visorak-leg" style. I'm actually quite glad I changed her look, as the need to use different colors gave me a better selection of parts to give her look more class.

Another concept I decided to play with was incorporating the Rhotuka spinner as a playable feature without compromising the look of the moc. One problem I had with sets Roodaka, Sidorak, and Keetongu was how their gimmicks played well, but ruined the look of the characters. I wanted Selaccene to be a moc that could use the spinner launcher, but not look awkward using it. My first attempt was to build the launcher as its own item, a weapon that was held and carried without being part of the handler. While I loved that concept, I decided that it didn't work for Selaccene's character. This time around, I gave building the launcher into the figure another chance by making it an arm-mounted weapon. It's not smooth or elegant, but not all gadgets are; and it is a device that's mounted on TOP of her arm. It was the last thing I had to work on with the moc, so I left it as it was on a note of satisfaction. For fun, I also made the Rhotuka rip-cord a weapon as well rather than a stow-away accessory.
