It really says something about the kind of body types you see in anime, that one show can introduce a chubby girl and it instantly blows anime watchers' collective minds. Whereas I, being a connoisseur of fat art, immediately went "peh, a bit too bony for my taste" upon seeing pictures of the character.

Yep, saw something similar happening with Ochoko (or whatever her name is) from My Hero Academia. Never really watched it, but saw some posts talking about how she is a plus size woman. Heh, small bubble they live in. Being someone who has also delved into the Fat Fetish, I barely noticed anything significant on her from the few pictures I saw, other than maybe a bit more flesh. Japan really has a long way to go with this, but considering even America is losing its mind over women being a few pounds overweight and acting like people in the 200 pound mark are sentencing themselves to death even though they're really not, it's going to be a long time before Japan hits that point as well, if it ever does.
Also, i've been debating for a while on calling the Fat Fetish a fetish. Fetish implies something is niche, a small portion of general population being attracted to it, and I can tell you that at the very least, there's MILLIONS of people attracted to fat people, of all shapes and sizes, from chubby to actually immobile. At that point it should just be a preference and not treated as some underground thing.
