i was admiring your gallery this morning and was so impressed with the quality and diversity of your work. really quite amazing.
this piece in particular is extremely eye catching, really great color choice but the thing i love most are the shapes within the painting.
thanks for sharing and congrats on the twenty thousand page views

I like the blurriness of this one.

Funny, I had an art teacher once who warned me that (in landscapes at least) "X shapes are unpleasant". I never really saw the case for that, and I see you've used several here, kind of abstract metal-glints. I think they add interest. The less-blended brush strokes are also particularly fascinating.

Thanks Laura. This is one of my last attempts, this year, to try and free myself up, so I could possibly move on to creating something else. But it didn't really work. I fizzled out pretty fast right after it. Hot summer weather hasn't really set in yet. That seems to motivate me some what. We'll see if I can't get more focused then.

Okay, now after having written my long comment on "Lost Highway," I feel I need to continue it here... Sorry.

At any rate, in the things I mentioned on "Lost Highway," this one seems to me to be the antipode. It has all of the complimentary-color goodness I look for in your color works. Also, instead of starting off with recognizable forms and departing from them with the vagueness of "Lost Highway," this one starts with a liberal and energetic blast of colors and suggestions of form, and then moves to create some kind of recognizable meaning and order in itself.

And, interestingly enough, the two really don't meet somewhere in the middle of the continuum between them--they're really not even close. That's something I find quite impressive and intriguing about you as a painter: You seem technically and intuitively skilled in so many diverse and disjointed styles. Definitely a strength, I think.

Me, I'm an illustrator. It's okay if it doesn't look real, but by God it'd better look close or have a damn good reason why it doesn't... Ah well, to each his own.

Great work!

Thanks again Jeff. My friend Mark (arum1966) and I, used to draw comic book characters when we were younger. He was always much better than me at that. He has the ability to be consistent, if he wants to. I hated to draw the same character twice. And when I did, you could always see that I had no fire in it. So I dropped it, and started producing works that had nothing to do with each other. You call it a strength, I call it unavoidable. On the other hand, I see you as being the strong one. To produce work, of the quality that you do, and keep your style consistent, requires a lot of focus, talent, and stamina. It amazes me.

Thanks again for you kind words.

I actually can sympathize with you a bit, in that I can only tell a story once. If something changes in the story (like a character, or a scenic environment, or a time-setting), I can re-tell it with a little bit of pain, but if I share too much the story is gone and to draw the rest of the pages would be harder than ripping out my pancreas with a cheese grater...

Interesting how we look at each other's approaches as "strength"--probably because we are constantly faced with the limitations/weaknesses of our own approach. Yeah, call me "Freud Jr" and pass the corn dogs...

You're welcome.

"Interesting how we look at each other's approaches as "strength"--probably because we are constantly faced with the limitations/weaknesses of our own approach." That is possibly the most profound thing I've read in a long time. Simply brilliant.

I've seen you use these colors before but never in this way. I really like the yellow ocher. Looks like you had fun with this one. What about this made you think of the title? I can find different scenes hidden in this.

All that yellow ocher is a key. Or at least it made me think of one. Thanks once again for the fav.
