I like how it seems like a sketch of impressions you might get from real things at the park, the echoes of the real. I don't think I am so keen as I am on your more crafted pieces; though I find its energy interesting - like a still life of things that are moving. Does that even make sense? It seems like a tableau, frozen.

Makes perfect sense to me. And thank you again. Insightful as usual. When a painting isn't going how I'd like it to, I don't tend to polish them up as much.

LOL I haven't thought of it like that, but I like it. Thank you very much.

i can totally see this scene in real-life, love the way it's expressed here, with the strong colors and loose strokes

Nice color choices and I still cannot get over how well your loosen up works turn out. When I first saw the thumbnail I thought that guy was riding a safety pin!

Thanks Boz. I've been playing around with b&w acrylic under paintings, and then coloring them in oil. It's been fascinating me how fast something can be built up like that. My painting "The Hollow" was also done like that, but I took much more time on it. It's a technique that lets me work as fast or slow as I want. Have you ever tried it?

BozManga In reply to Jeff1966 [2007-07-02 16:13:14 +0000 UTC]
no, I haven't tried it. I haven't even tried acrylic painting. But I understand the process. It is somewhat similliar when I do a b/w drawing and then color it in photoshop.

I guess it would be similar, but messier. Hahahahaha But I've been having fun with it.

The subject has an interesting dichotomy -- outdoor activities depicted inside. It's like just thinking, "Yeah, I need to exercise and get out more."
I've always liked your monochomatics. Well done.

Very strange... in a good way. Are you loosening up to work on some new stuff?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Jeff1966 In reply to BlueBurgStudios [2007-06-29 02:54:56 +0000 UTC]
Thank you. I try to loosen up after doing really tight pictures. If I don't, I develop a bad feeling toward painting. So when I do a picture like this one, it helps get that feeling out of my system. But yeah, it's also so I can continue to work on new things.

I can see where that would be necessary. I'm working on a colored pencil piece right now that may require some loosening up. It's quite tedious.
