Description Oil on masonite panel. (12x16 inches)

Unfortunately there's no expressionism category, and it's too far from abstract, so by default, it's categorized as surreal again.

Let this painting be a lesson to you, never drink and paint.

Also check out the work of my best friend Mark (arum) Masters [link] He's AMAZING !

awesome...love how the message is expressed in the rigidity of the figure and chaos of debris and color around her...

the brush strokes really emphasize the chaos quite nicely...ironic how nothing but disorder results from trying to artificially order everything...

A kind of totemic whirlwind. Very visceral. Put me in mind of the Wicked Witch of the West. Or the Worm Ourobouros. Kind of a depiction of some new myth, the world being made from blood and stones.

Talk about a disturbing sense of motion! If the viewer's eye can come to rest at one spot on this one for more than a second or two, it's because the viewer, too, is quite inebriated... That's wild and fun, showing a looser style than your other "surreal-for-lack-of-an-'Expressionism'-category" pieces.

Jeff1966 In reply to faile35 [2007-05-28 04:24:13 +0000 UTC]

This piece is pretty unsettling.

And I mean that in a "I really like it" kind of way.

Something about the way it's put together really upsets me. Which is an accomplishment

Maybe that's just me... maybe it's the angles.

Jeff1966 In reply to SelfRecyclable [2007-05-27 23:40:22 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Ev. That's the coolest thing I've heard about it. It might have been the large amounts of alcohol I drank to paint it. It always does something weird to a painting. Hehehehehehe

I'm impressed that you were able to paint so well while intoxicated.

Wild and expressive and really surreal. Thats a great work again, Jeff. Had to fave this! Sometimes I think you should work on lager formats.

Jeff1966 In reply to StephanusEmbricanus [2007-05-27 13:24:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks again Stephanus. I'm not sure why, but for some reason, I've felt more like working small lately. I do generally work 2 to 4 times as big.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StephanusEmbricanus In reply to Jeff1966 [2007-05-28 07:56:32 +0000 UTC]

Think big?
I for myself prefer to work on small panels or canvas when I worked my surreal paintings. A lot of reasons for that, the composition is faster to see and to work out, small works are easily to transport. And customers are ever having space to hang the picture. But anyhow I think galleries are looking for large pictures. And the impression of a large picture is stronger in these picture-flooded world. Small images you see in Newspapers on TV an evereywhere and in anykind from paintings till 3Dworks, but big paintings are more unique the leave more impression in this Image-word. And with a lot of techniques Especialy in digitals, it is still not easy to work out real big pictures. So painters have the chance in doing large paintings.

Jeff1966 In reply to StephanusEmbricanus [2007-05-28 13:21:46 +0000 UTC]

That is a very good point Stephanus. I haven't really sought out galleries yet, but if I do in the future, I'll have to consider working large. Thank you very much for the pointer/heads up on that.
