Description They're bad but good

20. Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic the Hedgehog) Shadow the Hedgehog is like an evil clone of Sonic. Well not evil, per say, but certainly more angsty, and he's not a fan of the blue blur at all. But luckily he hates Dr. Eggman more, so he begrudgingly stops evil sometimes. Shadow is noteworthy not only for being an edgier, tormented hedgehog with rocket shoes, but also for driving a motorcycle and popping a cap in Eggman's ass. For whatever reason, Sega thought Shadow would be more noteworthy as the only Sonic universe character to operate a firearm.

19. Itachi Uchia (Naruto Shippuden) This guy takes being a big brother to a new level. The elder sibling of that moody backstabbing Sasuke But Itachi was actually a scapegoat, and eliminating his clan prevented a coup d’état that could’ve resulted in another Shinobi war. And yet his little brother whom he allowed to live still wants to kill him.

18. Alucard (Hellsing) The hero of an anime I unfortunately never saw He’s a gun-wielding Dracula in service to England who battles crazy Catholics and Nazi vampires – that’s the definition of badass right there. Bound to the Hellsing family that protects the queen and contry from thing that go bump in the night

17.  Marv (Sin City) With a name like Marv you really do need to be a bit of a hard man. With his gigantic size (described as over 7 foot tall), his flat top haircut and hideous scarred mush he is the very personification of what Frank Miller calls “Conan in a trench coat”. But don’t be fooled by this monstrous man with the love of inflicting pain because he has a softer side too – although it’s not the soft side you might think of but rather a soft side that means he’ll kill for the people he cares about.Do not mistake Marv’s carin, loyal  side as a weakness though because it will be the last mistake you ever make. He may have been killed for love but it took several attempts for the law to put the big dog down and all while he was strapped in an electric chair talking smack.Voted numer 24 in the Wizard 100 greatest comic book characters of all time Marv ranks even higher in our list of the 10 comic book heroes you just wouldn’t want to f**k with and it only takes one look at him in the film adaptation to see exactly why.

16. Catwoman (DC Comics) She started off as a member of Batman's Rogue's gallery and the first lady in villiany Yet, over the years Selina’s motivations have grown from simple cat-inspired crimes to something more complex, graduating from villain to vigilante and antihero due in no small part to Frank Milliar's Batman Year one. Catwoman is considered an anti-hero because her heart is in the right place, but she lives life as thief and a burglar, she also has fought with Batman on many occasions, but sides with him often as well.

15. Revy (Black Lagoon)When you live in a city that live and breathes violence , you need to be a special kind of crazy to make it. Unless you’re Revy, in which case  you go nuts every day. Part of the pirate/mercenary group Lagoon Company, Revy’s day job consists of “acquiring” cargo, making deliveries, and blots wing the crap out of people. Foul-mouthed and moody as hell, this femme fatale won’t hesitate to riddle you with bullets. If your not on her side you as good as dead.

14. Namor (Marvel)Namor, The Sub Mariner first appeared in the spring of ’39 and proved to be a complex character in a four color world and may very well be the first comic book antihero, setting the standard for complex villains such as Magneto, for example.

Namor the Sub-Mariner is considered an anti-hero, because of his arrogant, selfish use of his powers, he generally doesn't use his power for the good of humanity, but for his own personal gain.(which doesent necessarily mean bad things)

13. John Marston (Red Dead Redemption) You can’t survive in the Wild West without getting your hands dirty, and Marston is no exception. He’s a former outlaw who agrees to track down members of his old gang for the FBI in order to be reunited with his family. Not surprisingly, his old friends aren’t too happy about this, and Marston is soon fighting for his life in the wildest parts of the wild west. Thankfully, he’s a pretty good shot, and is pretty nimble on horseback as well.

12. Han Solo (Star Wars) Smart, sarcastic and possessing of a certain cocksure charisma—Han Solo defines the maxim “shoot first, ask question later.” Only, when A New Hope was re-released in 1997, he didn’t shoot first in his iconic showdown with Greedo in the Mos Eisley cantina, to much wailing and gnashing of teeth on the part of series diehards. (They even started circulating fan-made t-shirts emblazoned with “HAN SHOT FIRST.”) That might seem like a bit of an overreaction, but think about it: Han Solo is the archetypal sci-fi antihero, whence all others came. Without his roguish charm, would an entire generation have watched Star Wars and turned their living rooms into the Millennium Falcon? Of course Han shot first.

11. Bender (Futurama): Manufatured by MOM's old fashion robot oil, this bad bot was designed to bend griders and he hated it and Bender is now employed at Planet Express. What make Bender my favorite character on the show is that his unabashedly selfish, narcissistic persona provides Futurama with a decent portion of its edginess! While he’s all about gambling, smoking and hooker bots, his sinful nature is more than a lifestyle choice, as he’s powered by alcohol! Bender is central to the show thanks to being friends, co-workers and roomies with Fry.

10. The Terminator "T-800" (The Terminator) At first a villain This Terminator model is a father figure to young John Connor. He protects the future messiah with his life, and even sacrifices himself to safeguard the future of humankind. So what if robot domination is inevitable and another version of the T-800 had to be sent back to fight a chick? He may be an emotionless killing machine, but the Terminator does learn why humans shed tears.

9. Rorschach (Watchmen): Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s dark creation was just one of many outstanding characters introduced during the landmark Watchmen series, but he is far and away the most popular and fascinating.  The child of a broken home, Walter Kovacs was a typical costumed hero (if there is such a thing) until one day he discovered a crime so horrific (a girl was kidnapped, and when the kidnapper realized he would get no money for her, he killed her, chopped up her body and fed it to his dogs) that it put him over the edge.  That day, as he explained to his prison psychiatrist, Walter Kovacs died and Rorschach was born, A paranoid crusader who's more than willing to break a man’s fingers for a scrap of information, Rorschach was uncompromising in his principles to the point where he was willing to die rather than live in a lie created by his rogue colleague Oyzimandias.

8. Vegeta (Dragonball Z): He’s tried to destroy the Earth just as many times as he’s saved it. As a Saiyan Prince, Vegeta’s only goal in life is to conquer the universe And that’s not just a pipe dream; he’s got enough power to do so. Both ally and rival, enemy and comrade, this Super Saiyan is not to be messed with.

7. Spawn (Image Comics)When you think of heroic characters, an ex-CIA assassin resurrected by Malebolgia, one of the Lords of Hell, as a hideously disfigured Hellspawn to lead the armies of Hell against God probably doesn't immediately spring to mind. Although Al Simmons has done some heroic things in his time, he's also not above killing the occasional scumbag, or even wiping out all of humanity (yes, he did it to "save" us all, but still.)

6. Hulk (Marvel) The green one, I mean…who is sometimes gray… Doc Bruce Banner was belted by gamma rays and thus his monstrous alter ego was born, a creature formed as much by his subconscious fears and rage as he was by a world intent on destroying him.  The Hulk has played many roles over the years: rampaging monster, full-fledged superhero, Las Vegas mob enforcer ruler of an alien planet. The Hulk in all his incarnations has proven popular enough to have sustained a pretty consistent run in comics from his first appearance in Tales to Astonish back in ’64.  Not bad for a guy who spent quite a few years saying little more than “Hulk Smash!”

5. Ivy (SoulCalibur) he illegitimate daughter of an undead pirate, Ivy was raised by a noble family, after her parents died in pursuit of the cursed Soul Edge sword. Thus, her goal is to find and destroy it. Her bondage themed outfit and whip sword, along with her generous proportions, have made her a series staple for years. Delicious. I would pick Zasimel to represent this weapon based fighter but I'm sticking with Ivy cause of eh-hem illegitimate reasons.

4. Kratos (God of War) A lot of these guys do a lot of nasty things, but Kratos takes the cake. He has little on his mind other than getting revenge on the gods for murdering his family, and he seems to have no limit to how badly he’s willing to slice up his enemies, like when he takes on Chronos or even gutting Zeus like lighting charged fish. Still, it’s hard not to respect his strength and dedication, even if his anger management tactics makes Charlie Sheen’s meltdowns look like an episode of Sesame Street.

3. Wolverine (Marvel) He is the best he is at what he does, if what you mean by what he does is sell comics.  One of the few characters considered to be Marvel's cash cow. a mutant killing machine that racks up an implausibly high body count wherever he goes.  He would rank higher on this list, except Wolverine is too much the team player.  Seriously, he is on at least two X-Men teams as well as The Avengers, not to mention the guest appearance of the week.

2. Godzilla (Godzilla): Godzilla is an unpredictable force of nature one minute he's destroying your home town an d another he's protecting it. Gojira, as he’s known in his hometown, is a radioactive lizard, with a trademarked screech and atomic breath. Unstoppable and able to regenerate, he has appeared in some 30 films, far outpacing any movie monster. and if you don’t agree, he’ll gladly stomp on your hometown until you see things his way.

1. Deadpool (marvel) Betcha you never expected him to be no. 1 Cancer victim Wade Wilson volunteered for the Weapon X program to gain a healing factor to cure his cancer.  Thing was, the healing factor caused his cancer to create tumorous growths all over his body, making him look hideous.  It also made him nuts. a parody of DC villain Deathstroke Deadpool started out a villain and then evolved to his own character Love him or hate him, the “merc with a mouth” has proven to have legs. Besides I had to pick him as my no. 1 choice other wise he'd break my arms.

Honorable mentions

Jack Sparrow

Prince Zuko

Blade

Hellboy

Dinobot

Dante (Devil May Cry)

Wario

I applaud most of your choices, but am annoyed by some of the ranks you gave them. Why on Earth is "The Hero's evil clone" (Shadow the Hedgehog)- a "rip-off" by definition, unless the clone has characteristics that distinguish him from the hero, e.g., Bizarro's insanity- put ahead of characters that are actually original, like Dinobot? Why is a douchebag who hates the human race (Namor)- despite the fact HE IS HALF-HUMAN- put ahead of someone who not only protects the human race, but enjoys doing so (Blade, Hellboy, Dante)?

And why isn't the Punisher (Frank Castle) on this list? Do you consider him a hero instead? Mistake him for a villain, due to Garth Ennis' hack writing? Or is he simply "another violent vigilante" (of which there are thousands, due to talentless hacks worming their way into writing careers and positions at Marvel and DC Comics) to you?

'The Punisher MAX Volume 5: The Slavers' ( www.amazon.com/Punisher-MAX-Vo…) actually demonstrates Garth Ennis' potential as a writer. Unlike the rest of the writer's work, 'The Slavers' isn't weighed down by blatant racism (Ennis seems to think all Asian women are whores, as seen in www.amazon.com/Fury-MAX-1-6-Ga…) or Communist propaganda (at least anti-capitalist propaganda, as seen in www.amazon.com/Punisher-MAX-Vo…).

'The Punisher MAX Volume 11: Girls in White Dresses' ( www.amazon.com/Punisher-Max-Gi…) has the Punisher demonstrate the lengths he'll go to save innocent women and children from human traffickers, WITHOUT demonstrating "lawful stupid" tendencies.

'Ultimate Avengers' ( www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Comics…) has the Punisher as a supporting character, but Frank Castle remains IN CHARACTER (unlike in Garth Ennis' later works, which have him shoot without thought to "innocent bystanders"- not even recognizing the idea of "innocence," and in www.amazon.com/Punisher-End-1/…, CAUSE THE EXTINCTION OF THE HUMAN RACE). The work further demonstrates Mark Millar's competence as a writer; unlike others, he doesn't plagiarize his own works or "turn back the clock" (undo character development that is a consequence of earlier events and experiences) when writing the sequel.

I hope the cited works are to your tastes.

Though not sure if Wolverine is an anti-hero. Only because Professor X bettered him, psychologically.
