I haven't done any drawing of Jei recently so decided to do one.last night I was re reading a fanfiction about her and it sort of imspired me to draw this
also... the other reason to draw this is.. well i wanted to practice my shading skills... i know i have done may errors but I just cant correct them coz i am just not good enough... DX
and yes Jei is an American Shorthair.

I'm no expert at shading but one thing i noticed is on the ear it looks like the light is coming from the complete opposite direction as on the face. I feel like the shadow should be darker on the the top of the ear if the light is coming from the front, but i may be wrong.
Other than that, i think the shading is fine. You even made the fur look fluffy/ three dimensional

For drawings like this i never look at references since this is my character
And i do get to make mistakes on where. Should shade and where i shouldnt
So yeah this is one example of my mistake
Btw i used Sai to draw this one
I prefersai than Photoshop and i use it all time now
I love the blur tool

I hate it on photoshop coz it lags alot
Also Sai doesnt lag when i draw with bigger sized brushes
I dont know why photoshop lags so much DX
I actually tried to make the fur fluffy

Haha it's funny because in one of my comments i sent before i saw this i recommended that you should use sai over photoshop (because i thought you used Photoshop - most people do)
Yeah i used Photoshop for the first couple digital drawings in my gallery and it lags a lot and makes the drawing just look horrible - or at least they way i was drawing it -_-
Photoshop lags so much because it's an adobe product and those are notorious for crashing and lagging all the time XD

no problem Dino. It really really has always been prity good. But some of the newer things are totally epic hun. I'm a fan of only people who make art that stands out good to me, or people who are kind to me. Your prity much both. But we don't talk very often at all.

She looks just so...sad. The emotion is well-captured.

It's very pretty, that's the first word that pops in my mind. I like the emotion in Jei's face. The style is nice. The nose on the right looks like it's sticking out too far a little.
The fringe confuses me. Is it sticking straight out in front of her face? I see shadow on her face from the other short fur in front of her, but not the long point, so I can't tell if it's sticking out sideways or not.
I LOVE the colors. It's very lovely. The shading is fantastic stuff. But the shading above her left eye, that's from the eyelashes next to her eye? Where is the light source coming from? I can't tell if it's coming all over or not.
That's my being picky, breaking it down. But on a whole, I love this. It's cute, interesting, and I JUST noticed the ball of light Jei's staring at XD
Maybe if you darkened the areas where the light doesn't hit, that would help the viewer notice the ball of light immediately.

yeaht the shadow abover her eyes is coming from the eyelashes. and the light is coming sort of.... from the direction she is loooking at. i dont know what she sees... its probably the moon yeah.... she could be on a hill or something or the moon is just low.. haha
or it could be Jayfeather's spirit. you never know. XD
