Description This is the 2nd of my 30 paintings in 30 days series! There are still some slots left so if you're interested in doing an art trade with me this month read the details here!

The paint I used for this is a combination of Spectra-Tex Airbrush Colors and Daniel Smith Primatek paints. The neon colors are from the water-based, highly pigmented, professional grade Spectra-Tex paints which can be used with water just like any other liquid watercolor paints.

This work was created as a companion piece to :

The first one garnered many questions about process, and a poll showed overwhelmingly that people wanted a tutorial for the process. I took photos along the way as I was making this and plan to compile them into a tutorial asap and share with you all.

A little about my process:

This picture was created in 5 steps over a number of days.

1) The entire sheet of Arches was first covered with a pattern of the neon watercolors and let it dry completely.
2) I used a compass and a brush to paint on the circles with art masking fluid.
3) When the masking fluid was entirely dry, I used a VERY wet mop brush and Daniel Smith "Lunar Black" watercolor which is a granulating pigment and completely covered the original layer.
4) Before the black was dry, I used a syringe full of 91% isopropyl alcohol and dripped it all over the black, creating the texture.
5) And finally, after another night of drying completely. I used a rubber cement pickup block to lift the masking fluid off.

I love the texture in the black of this, so I included the full size image as a free download.

I see a lot of screaming skulls that might be a result of the acid rain. Is that the effect you were going for or is it just my interpretation?

All the best,

Chris

Abstract art is great because everyone's interpretation is the right one.
