There's a new American TV show coming out in October in which Dr. Watson is, in fact, a woman named Joan. Sherlock and Joan are flatmates in New York City in the 21st century. It's called Elementary. I've got mixed feelings about it, because I will inevitably begin to compare Johnny Lee Miller to Benedict Cumberbatch and Lucy Liu to Martin Freeman (yes, I know that's a bit unfair, but it's a habit of mine).
