Description The Temple of Pilae, Upper Egypt, 2008.

Built by the Greek Pharaoh Ptolmey, defaced by early Coptic Christians on the run from Roman patrols, and later imperiled, flooded, and buried by the Aswan High Dam, the ruins were moved to higher grounds in the late 20th Century and still contain traces of their original paint.

Very pretty around sunset, I tell you. Creepy, with all the lighting, but pretty.

Thanks!

Egypt was fabulous - sights and sounds like no other! I filled a notebook with various tidbits of history and trivia regarding the places we were visiting....entire hieroglyphic alphabets, an explanation of the calendar system, photos of Alexandar the Great's cartouche....though now it's taking me forever to match said notes up with pictures. There was just so much to see! ^_^;
