I automatially love anyone who recognizes this guy.And for those of you who don't recognize him this is Pretorius, the mad scientist (or "chaos theorist" as he refers to himself) in Edge City from the cartoon The Mask the Animated Series.
Quite possibly my most favorite fictional character ever. There's just something about an evil villian who made it so his head is detachable and can walk around seperatly from his body on little metal spider legs that's so irrisistable. (that or I just have weird taste in men) Either way this guy just screams "awesome".
A common misconception about Pretorius is that his body is fully robotic. It's not. He's just a cyborg. You can tell his body is still real flesh and blood because he still feels pain. (as seen in the episode "Mutany of the Bounty Hunters") And then there was that one time (in "Bride of Pretorius") when he wanted to find a wife so he could wipe out the rest of humanity and restart the human race himself. Can't do THAT without a "real" body now, could he?
But anyways, favorite character from my favorite cartoon Mask the Animated Series. I figured it was about time I posted something for it.

Ever since I watched the cartoon on VHS as a kid, I always hoped for a sequel to the original Jim Carrey movie where Pretorius was the main antagonist. Unfortunately what we got instead was Son of the Mask.

An interesting (or funny) fact about Pretorius is that he always acts absolutely calm and serious about everything.
He is one of those villains who would make a great villain in the Batman comics.
Unlike most DC villains like Joker or Lex Luthor Pretorius is not about conquering the world or mass murdering people but rather doing dangerous experiments for science itself.
I remember one episode from The Mask animated series where he tortures his cyborg body with sharp, spikey weapons to become immune to pain (or something similar).
Of course torture was not shown on the screen but as an adult that scene is dark, creepy and shows that Pretorius is truly an underrated villain.
Besides in the Batman comics this guy would be a cool villain in the Spiderman comics or the One Piece manga.

It's the other way around. Mr. Freeze is just like Pretorius with that concept. (The Mask the Animated Series came before The New Batman Adventures)

I haven't seen this guy in years. I completely forgot that his head come's off. That always freaked my out but for some reason I always loved it. It's such a freaky idea for a kids show.

I actually remember this guy, but not so much all of the Mask animated series episodes. What I really remember Dr. Pretorius is from the toy line that came out during the mid 90s.
The thing that really blew my mind is finding out that the actual comic series that The Mask is based off from happens to be very dark.

I know this guy so well, this is DR. PRETORIUS! I know him because I have a "The Mask: The Animated Series" Tape, with two episodes on it, and the second episode is where Dr. Pretorius wears The Mask!

I wish so much that this cartoon was on DVD or bluray. Thankfully you can find most of the episodes on youtube at least. But it's surprising it doesn't have an official release considering how awesome it was. Plus the fact it was inspired by a popular movie.

I think Pretorius has more eyebrows than actual hair on his head. XD
I think it's designed that way on purpose because of the lenses covering his eyes. It would probably look even stranger if his eyebrows were normal sized. O_o
