Description This is one of my favorite pieces so far this year, yet another member of my Greek mythology series. Niobe bragged that having fourteen children made her a better mother than Leto. Leto's children, which just happened to be Artemis and Apollo, got revenge by killing all of Niobe's children (whoops). Niobe was so upset that she went to the top of a mountain and cried until she turned to stone.

This won Best of Show at my high school art show.

I would really like if somebody could explain to me why all the heroes of mythology were a bunch of complete bastards, while the villains and monsters are nearly always tragic figures who were either in the wrong place at the wrong time, or had the misfortune to piss off one of the many petty gods.
By the way, nice work.

When you think of it, are modern heroes and villains much different? Thanks for the fave!

You're so morbid, liking a myth where her whole family is killed and she turns to stone Hehe, thanks though.

Quality over Quantity... but a very brutal story.

The picture is really well done. Don't know what else to say... it's just good ^^

Hi Jennifurret, I like this one so much because it shows the emotion of life and dead. Your choice of colors is great and you painted so much sadeness in her face. I realy like it.

^_^ I really liked this piece.

...I liked Pygmalion more, but this piece is so pretty that I'm willing to overlook the fact that Pygmalion didn't get three awards.

Pygmalion is my favorite too. And seeing that it's impossible to get three awards in the art show...

Great peice, I can see why it won! I love the sorrow-like expression in her face, and the way you've made some of her fingers broken giving it an overall look of being old and battered.

What a gorgeous piece. I love the intrepretation of the story. The shading is always so realistic with all of your work and this piece is just stunning. The transition from skin to stone is so smooth!
