I was rather surprised that any still existed after all these years.

Arte-de-Junqueiro [2015-08-07 08:17:03 +0000 UTC]

Did they get taken to the USA as "victors spoils" (too big to be a pilots souvenir!)?

Ha! No idea BUT I think they were used in Movies?

I believe it is a modified US training aircraft; a T-6 "Texan" made to look like the Japanese dive bomber. I doubt if any of the actual Japanese aircraft survived but movies like "Tora Tora Tora" used Texans converted to look like Japanese aircraft... this in the days before CGI!Β

CGI!

This is most definitely a replica. Real D3As had a three-bladed prop rather than a two-blade, and also had open canopies at the back for a tail gun.
Today, no intact D3A Val bombers are believed to exist. They sustained heavy losses throughout the Pacific War and were frequently used for kamikaze attacks.
Heck, even the A6M Zero was unable to escape extinction; although the US was able to capture one in the Aleutians, it was destroyed in a collision three years later.

Really beauty, but is not a Zero. The Zero has the retractable landing gear and don't has the extended cockpit and the prolongation on the back. I think this one is the Aichi D3A ! But a trully beauty shotΒ  !
