Description This piece is very meaningful to me. My yellow lab Stevie died last August, the day after I left home again. I was very broken-hearted and had a difficult time getting over it. But I knew she needed a proper tribute (and with other dogs I've lost I've gotten to keep their collars, not so with Stevie), so as soon as I was able to look at photos of her and NOT cry, I started this scratchboard. It took about a week maybe, working on it for a couple hours here and there. Absolutely killed my eyeballs to focus on all those little details and make sure it all came out right - I promised myself that if it didn't end up perfect, I would hate myself. Thank goodness I'm satisfied! ^_^

Stevie was such a WONDERFUL dog. She had a way of literally smiling at you, her tail was ALWAYS wagging, and she was such a sweetheart. If you were near her, she would place a paw on your knee until you pet her. Boy did she love being pet ^_^ We would also wrestle and go for long walks and explore together. She was my best friend when I had no one. I will always miss my Steven Po. <3

It's an awesome artwork, how did you lay down an outline?

To be honest, most of the outline is what's left over from the white transfer paper I used to see what the heck I was doing. Otherwise I started towards the center and worked my way out, so the outer layers of scratches form the outline. That answer the question? n_n;

Aren't labs awesome?

Anymore I see pictures of her and I smile from her sweet memory. I hope thoughts of your Ben bring you the same sort of peace.

Amazing I love the technique you used; whenever I use scratchboard, I have to stop the urge to stipple everything. I love the cross hatch you used, and specially the story behind it. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much. Dude, if I had converted to a stippling technique, I would probably have carpal tunnel by now With scratchboard it's a little difficult to stipple per se, because you have to kinda pull the outer layer off, and it becomes a line, you know what I mean? But anyway, thanks!

Haha yeah, totally. It goes from dots to lines and a hybrid of cross hatch and stippling. You're welcome!
