WB Marketing Art, The Mach 5 cross-country racecar, SPEED RACER. Pencil, Magic Marker, Prismacolor.Well... I reckon it's safe to post this now, seeing as the movie raced through its theatrical release as speedily as the title character's namesake. Heheh.
This was a freelance assignment, and they wanted me to render the famous racecar as a simplified hard graphic, for use as a design image. I remember the cartoon show as a kid, and I was quite fond of the Mach 5. It ranks alongside the Batmobile from the 60s "Batman" television show in high esteem. As faithful as the filmmakers were, they did, however, make changes to the iconic vehicle. But I must say that I didn't find the alterations objectionable at all here, purist that I usually am. I now proudly possess both toy versions, classic and contemporary.

I based mine of a variety of sources, but then took a few liberties like actually putting in working doors and windows.

Never watched the show or the film... BUT this is really cool so I'm going to fave it, if you don't mind.
Films made after cartoons hardly ever work out well, if not never. Can't think of one which did, now that I've mentioned it.

Man, the Mach 5 always ranked high on my "Cars I Intend To Own Someday" Lis, alongside the Adam West Batmobile and James Bond's Aston Martin.
Only more so when they made the street-legal version a few years back.

My dream garage would have the Batmobile (the '66, '89, and '05 versions), the Mach 5 (both cartoon and film versions), the Knight Industries 2000, KITT, the BACK TO THE FUTURE DeLorean, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Starsky and Hutch's "Red Tomato" Gran Torino, Herbie the Love Bug, the Chariot from LOST IN SPACE, a lightcycle from TRON, and the red motorcycle from AKIRA.
I think that might cover it.

I think they should've used that signature opening from the cartoon, with the revving engine, the close-up of the wheel, the musical tones, and the series of stinger trumpets. Start the film right before the song would begin.
