Thanks muchly! I've been a huge fan of Watterson since I was a kid. I wish there were a way to legally do Watterson-style Ka-Zar and Zabu comics... Actually, what I really wish is for Watterson to do a Ka-Zar and Zabu mini-series for Marvel...

I suddenly have the need to go out and buy the whole Calvin and Hobbes collection. I miss them so... but darn it all, that means I have to get a job.

The collection is crazygood. Sooo inspirational. Should you get a job, I'd highly recommend the purchase. Y'know, Watterson was a genius. Everything about the strip was incredible--character design, comic timing, implementation. When I read today's popular comic strips, I really miss Calvin and Hobbes.

Yep. Calvin and Hobbes and Jeff Smith's Bone series were my first comic addictions. Gooooood stuff.

I'm impressed. With inspirations like those, you're well on your way to becoming a comics genius. Bone was incredible! Jeff Smith also did a brilliant Shazam miniseries for DC Comics last year that was mind-blowing.

Oh? I'll hafta look that up.

I -wish- I had the skills to pull something that awesome off. Practice, practice, practice, I need a lot more of it. Might help to settle on one idea at a time, I've got plot bunnies exploding from my ears.

Plot bunnies, much like spontaneous fits of personal brilliance, have their uses as well. You prolly already do this, but if not--buy a sketchbook that fits your lifestyle. I carry a 5.5 x 8.5 Moleskine sketchbook EVERYWHERE I go. It's full of captured plot bunnies. On those rare occasions when things are quiet and my brain is recuperating (hence unavailable for inspired creative thought), I refer to my sketchbooks for something cool to develop.

I always have a sketch book and a clipboard of printer paper and I go through them faaaast. I'm an obsessive doodler, always have been... Its a surprise I got through high school considering I could barely stop myself long enough to do any work. I love creating new characters,I make them and then form a plot around them and its always fun when they happen to fit with another. Its just a matter of remembering what the heck I was thinking when I drew certain things.

People may be expecting that Moonboy and Devil Dinosaur pic you mentioned in a comment above, though (hint, hint).

Yah, I know. Life's been biting me in the ass for the last few months. Now, I'm gettin' geared-up for San Diego, and I'm swamped getting stuff ready for that. Perhaps a Devil Dinosaur is in the cards after Comic-Con...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cesar-Hernandez In reply to jerrycarr [2008-06-26 14:25:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes!

Don't forget Moon, though, or Devil will be sad. And you won't like him when he's sad .

And I totally get it about not being able to do all the things you'd want to... Stupid life, LOL. But sooner or later, a better time will come. It always does.
