Ooo, I have a weakness for stars ever since I was fortunate enough to have a jeweler friend present me with a lovely Lindy ring that I'd been coveting. The style and setting you've created are so perfect for this stone. It's absolutely beautiful!

Thanks, I also love stars, I have so many colors of star sapphire and a lot of nice Burma ruby stars also. Did you see this [link] pendant? This was a Sri Lanka ruby star. I had a really tough time trying to photograph the star on that one I love the transparency on the nicer star gems. It gives the illusion of a star floating I'm very glad the Linde Star made such an impact when it did. Before those, most star material was ground up for abrasives or was heated to eliminate the star and then faceted.

I own several different colors of star sapphire rings, but there are so many more out there that I'm like a kid in a candy store when I come across new stars! I hadn't seen the star ruby! Thanks for pointing it out to me! It's gorgeous! I do love my Linde... I just wish he had mounted it in something other than hand-wrought silver wire because it's so delicate. I get quite paranoid when I wear it.

That looks to be fairly protective of the stone, they are 9 on the moh's scale As long as the stone isn't moving in the setting things should be secure

You're right, the stone hasn't moved one iota in the 22 years I've owned the ring, though I don't wear it as often as I did when I was in college, for fear that I'll bang it against a wall or some other hard surface and crack it. Wow! Thanks for looking at it! I've actually learned more about my favorite ring from you!

Cracking it I doubt unless you like to punch brick walls Scratching it is also unlikely because diamond and moissanite are the only things I know of that are harder than it. The silver should be about the only thing you have to worry about scratching or breaking. I love sapphire for this reason. It's actually more durable than diamond, not as hard but it doesn't have cleavage like diamond.

Ohh, that makes me feel better. I was very worried because I have a very bad habit of talking with my hands, and I'm a klutz, which leads to a tendency to smack the back of my hand into the occasional wall or tabletop! I've chipped stones before, though they were cheaper, barely a step above costume jewelry stuff. I just didn't want to risk anything as precious as my Linde. Thanks, again! I really appreciate the info! I now have an even greater affinity for my ring!

Thanks for the compliment. With some stones the rest of the work comes easy. Great stones usually make great jewelry

you're welcome. It would seem though that you have to have a good eye for the kinds of stones that make great jewelry and you both certainly have that!

I loved this star, sometimes it's hard to part with stones or finished jewelry. It fit so nicely, unfortunately it's time has passed with me[link]

I loved working with palladium, unfortunately I don't have all the equipment to cast it myself. This metal has a nice white color that won't tarnish.
