if anything, this suits me more than it does you. I can't tell you how many times I've been jealous of other art on here, even when I get compliments from people in rl, it still doesn't feel good because most often it's on something I know isn't all that good, and then I get critical and cynical.

Aye, we both are like this. I just don't show this side that much and my green-eyed tendencies are shoved under the rug. I don't like showing this side of me, but I know there are many people better than me with art and writing or just about anything...But I need to be content with whatever God allows me the chance to learn.

You are better than me in areas that I can hardly compete within. Trust me, you're not as pitiful as you paint yourself. >w>

yeah, like where? I can barely draw unless I'm looking at something. i'm really only decent at free handing, and I can't do realism to save my life and my stuff never looks half as good as yours does.

Well, I was more referring to the art in total, but, I both like and dislike the Cheshire Cat. I'm weird, and I look at things in MANY perspectives,so I can like and dislike and be neutral to one thing for multiple reasons.
I like the Cheshire cat in the sense that it stirs things up, brings up issues that a person deals with, weaknesses, which in turn shows the person their weaknesses, and, if they are looking at it, can see where they need to improve on life. It also allows for other learning of things in life.
I don't like it for a similar reason, because it is uncomfortable to deal with weaknesses, or being teased in ways.
But with both involved, I am slightly more in favor of it in the sense of learning stuff in life due to it. Learning brings about a great many good things, and can help others if we teach them or show them.
I also dislike the creepy factor to it, but at the same time, it makes sense, and helps with its task to bring on fear.
Although, thinking about it... it would work somewhat better in some cases to be like how Disney portrayed it, by having it seem to act fun, and look innocent, because, well, sin is often presented to us as fun, and don't realize it until pain and hurt comes upon us and/or others around us.
As for why I like this art, however, is because of how you portray the Cheshire Cat, and your reaction to the thoughts it brings up. It shows an aspect that is truly something that goes through many people's heads. One aspect of several reactions for such is shown in this, and shown well.

You probably do well in hiding that dark side of yourself. A lot of people do well in hiding their dark sides for quite awhile. Leaving people surprised when you say something about your dark side, that people just haven't seen much of or haven't noticed enough. Of course, at some point in our lives, we end up knowing more about who we are deep down than anyone else in the world. Except for maybe some parents... some parents are super smart about knowing their children...
But, yeah, it would be very interesting to see you do an Alice in Wonderland for yourself. I'd actually like to see that for various reasons, the main one to learn more about another's life, which can help me with understanding people better, which will help in my writing. Another reason to understand you more. And yet another reason for seeing how another person would interpret one story into a story for their own life, as there is a TON that can be learned from that in many upon many aspects of life. And yeah... I like to learn, and I learn from anywhere and anything... I look at life as a giant school, always something to learn in anything and through anyone, and seeing a reason or finding value in any action, including not good actions, as seeing someone do wrong, can still teach valuable lessons, and possibly better for getting lessons out of, because harm and pain generally cause people to connect to the situation more emotionally in some way, whether it be relating to it, or despising cruel actions, or what have you, and then to see the lesson to be learned from that. Sadly... most people end up learning only from their own life experiences... and soon forget or completely ignore lessons that could be learned from others, fictional or non-fictional.

Definitely understand. I try to keep my problems to myself too... afraid to be seen as a whiner, or pathetic, etc.
Do it!!
It is indeed very important to look at more perspectives on life and such. And, just how you are describing that... willing to encourage people to think beyond what is written, that is one of the major things that drives me to write. I want to write things that inspire people, things that make people think, and use their imagination. To write stories that explain more perspectives and concepts and ideas. To write stories people can enjoy, to be entertained.
And, something that may help you a bit, just as God created all things, and his invisible qualities show through his creation, which can point to him, so we, who were made by him, when creating things, whether for good or bad, can still be used to point to God. God can use anything for good, just as Satan twists and perverts everything for evil. I mean, that is all he does, twist things to another perspective... that is all Satan can do, twist things to look different. With that being said... if you see something secular, you can still find good to come from it in some way. Such as, you should see what could be done to compare Toy Story, all three movies, to a life following God, especially the third movie. I had started a comparison once, however... I never got to finishing it properly. I mean, if I watched the movie again, and put myself to it, maybe I could finish it again as it should be, could then send it to you if you wanted. Point is though, just because something is secular, doesn't mean principals that can point to God can't be found inside it.
And, that last part... that is one of the parts I love doing most.... bringing people to look at something in a whole new way, that surpasses their imagination to see something they would never have imagined could be found in the story. I just love to look at things in different perspectives soo much, and boggling people's minds, or making their minds blow. Honestly, I don't like the term "you blew my mind", because it implies that something was soo severe, that the person's perspective on life broke, that their box of reality or their limited box was brought to another level. But, at the same time, I am glad for that happening, because people need a good mind blow from time to time, for their sense of reality to be challenged, to see life is more than what they have grown to define it to be.
And in that way, I guess I like to blow people's minds, to get them to see something they could never have imagined possible.
Okay... I rambled a bit there... but, yeah, I think you get the idea.
And with that said, when you write, do it for God. Leave room for him to work, because he knows what he is doing, and will help add in details that end up doing more than you could ever imagined possible doing on your own. As you do whatever it is you do for him, he will use whatever it is, even if it feels like it is something secular at the time of doing it, as long as you remember that what you do is for him, and give him credit and glory, amazing things will come of it.

ok, first things first.Β Cheshire Cat is AWESOME! He has always been one of my all favorite characters and you have drawn him SO well. LOVE that creepy riddle speaking cat.
Second. Your art is very good. you shouldn't let the fact that someone else can draw better then you get to you. there always going to be someone out there who is better then you, that is just the world we live in. What you should be doing, isΒ cherishingΒ the skill you have. I would sell part of my soul to be able to draw as well as you did. Β
so chin up champ. all is well, and you are art is very good.Β
p.s. If it means anything to you, this is one of the best pictures ofΒ Cheshire Cat I have ever seen. you captured his creepiness and the smile.Β

I think almost every artist struggles with jealousy. Art comes from the depths of the mind, and it is very personal and special to the artist. So we hold our art close to us and become envious when others can express themselves better. That is the purpose of art, after all; to convey.
Β
This may or may not be a solution, but when I first started out as an artist 6 years ago, I wasn't very good. My friend at the time was much better than I was, so I used my envy as a means to become better. And I just kept on trying and trying. I created rivals for myself of the people I was jealous of, not that I didn't like the person, but I challenged myself to get up to their level. This was mostly for artists who were my age, because I would think "they're the same age as me, so I will use them as a goal."Β
So really, you can hold yourself back with envy, or use it to your advantage. I think you have the capacity to continue to get better, because you have improved since I started watching you for sure!
And as far as this picture goes, I really like it! The pink is an awesome contrast to that textured green background. ^^
