Description
This cat has lived on my front porch for years now. She won't let us touch her, and she only comes for two things: food & to rub up against the dog. She comes inside the house just to find the dog but leaves if you try to touch her. We've never named her, so she's just referred to as "the cat."-----------------------------------------

It's a 50mm f/1.8. The smaller the f-number the sharper the lens will focus on one point, resulting in blurring the rest. I took this at the smallest f-stop the lens allows for (1.8). This lens is an excellent portrait lens.

second question: what brand?
I'm a big fan of the canon 50mm f/1.4 but was surprised when I saw the clarity of your image. If you're using the the Canon 50mm 1.8 then I'm just going to faint right here at your genius. the depth of field you have emulated is truly beautiful, and it captures your subject very nicely.

Yes, this is the canon brand 1.8. It is a brilliant lens, especially for the price! The 1.4 is slightly better in some areas, but whatever this lens can't do (which isn't much) I can make up for in photoshop for the most part. But with this picture I only changed the levels slightly so it really is an amazing lens. I would buy 3 more of these before I splurged on the 1.4.
