Description The 2005 Futurity at Belmont was quite an exciting race. At the break, Disco's Son stumbled, dumping Javier Castellano off his back. That didn't stop him, however, from running a quite professional race and coming out on top...too bad it didn't count. Private Vow (the legitimate winner) pretty much stayed even with Disco's Son till the end; Jerry Bailey never asked him to exert himself to overcome the loose horse. It was 9 lenghts back to the other horse, anyway.

I was so eager to shoot the end of this race, especially after I saw Disco's Son take the turn and actually come down the stretch (usually loose horses bear out toward the outer rail). I'm so glad Private Vow didn't pass him, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the two horses together at the end. I might never get a picture like this ever again...

Poor Disco's Sun ran a winning race all on his own. Who needs a jockey?

This photo should silence any and all doubters and nay-sayers who insist the horses run because they're forced to. Obviously, Disco's Son wanted to win, and he did it WITHOUT his rider. He's showing some pretty good form here. I can see the fire and determination in his eyes. I also like that you captured Jerry WATCHING Disco's Son. You've shown here that he was looking out for his colt and wanted to be ready to check or cue Private Vow to accelerate and get out of the way in the event Disco's Son bore out, tripped, or got tangled in his reins.

Love the shot. You've always been one of my favorite photographers. (I've been following you on FTG )

Ugh, I hated this race. o.O Absolutely terrified that something was going to happen - I must say, Disco's Son was very impressive, he stuck to the inside and ran straight. Love the race call, too - xD, And it's Private Vow, cruising home, with a little company.

But a beautiful shot. GOod job.
