I think the lines work very well to make this piece successful. I like that you used the lines in different values because it adds to the depth and emotion of the piece. I find it very frazzled which one ought to be in such a situation. The shading also works very well. I have two areas of distraction. The first is the fuzziness of the area in the bottom right. I think it would work better for the perspective and composition if it wasn't so distorted. Because of its texture is so different from the rest of the piece it creates a distracting focal point. Second, I believe it is one of your sketch liens for the proportions of the Hatter, but it draws straight across her face and its distracting in full view because I love the look on her face. You nailed that so well and my eyes end up following the faint line that cuts through it.
