Several Intrepids of varying degrees of completion were rushed into service to bolster mounting losses during the Dominion War. Though primarily a science platform, Intrepids could easily swing into combat with relative ease. Boasting one of the fastest response times in the fleet and an armament rating often attributed to larger designs.

The USS Cassandra (NCC-75720) was still missing internal furnishings and her untuned bio-neural systems caused some instability with data processing. Regardless, her crew cleverly and haphazardly worked around the problems while prioritizing combat systems whenever possible. At launch, the 90% complete spaceframe headed to the front lines with the ice still fresh on the champagne. Cassandra immediately assisted in the hectic Evacuation of Lusiane IV, distracting the smaller destroyers as the capital ships organized a defensive perimeter. After the battle, Cassandra's skipper would nickname the ship as the "war maiden". Tallying a respectable record of three destroyers and assisting the takedown of one siege cruiser.
