Worn for Japan Expo USA 2013 in Santa Clara! I was "spotted" by and given this really cute TEZUKA SPOT sticker by editors of tezukaosamumagazin.jp and it really made my day! Then a very sweet elder Japanese woman from the art/culture area of the hall totally fawned on me for making her so nostalgic, we took a picture together and I put my hat on her! She reminded me of how amazing Cosplay can be..!!!

If you haven’t checked out the amazingly cute and funny classic Manga リボンの騎士 / Princess Knight by Osamu Tezuka you’re missing out! The 3 books are available in English thank to Vertical Inc and are a real steal for beautiful, whimsical piece of manga history. The Right Stuf and Nozomi have also gone through great great difficulty to collect and restore the animation/english dub from the 1970s and you can even watch a bit of the dub online for free from the official Nozomi channel on Youtube!

I had always been into the story of this young *very Disney-esque Princess who was raised as a Prince. Just like Utena and Oscar, I feel drawn to those types of Heroines. But I hadn’t had the opportunity to read the manga until just last year. I fell so much in love with all the character and the whimsy, though it’s not my ultimate favorite Tezuka work (how can you pick?!) It’s was just such a fun experience making this outfit. I originally intended to wear it for Mickey’s Halloween, so I made it extra pretty and Disney style so that I can bow to all the Park Princesses I may not go this year but someday I’ll bring Sapphire to the Magic Kingdom <3
