Sculpted Call todayOh, she is my first sculpture!
You saw Beck sculpture in Kickstarter video? Here is Call, she is already wishing to see her partner all the way in Japan ;D ;D
While sculpting, I thought about Inafune saying how proportions really matter. Did you watch that video already?

My style of painting is not like Mighty No.9 proportions but that is because I love to re-create fan art based on my style.
It's also fun to emulate official artwork style too, of course.
That is what I am doing in the sculpture. The proportions are mimicking the official artwork.

Model Magic - cheap and forgiving.Β
Are you interested in trying something out? I would recommend this if you're starting out. I also have experience with some brands of "paperclay" - very very good for cosplay prop making. It will harden a lot more than model magic so if you chuck it, it may not break. Model magic is squishy and "sponge-like". Not as great for props IMHO, but lovely for little sculptures. Remember to allow for 72 hours of drying time as it will still be spongy, and apply a foam sealant before painting. I use dollar store acrylics for painting props. Probably can do the same with figurines, but there are more expensive and better looking paints out there.Β

I hear it's because each artist was only allowed to submit one base design to the vote, and the artist for this one and the Roll-styled one chose...the Roll-styled one.

Oh wow. Thanks for the inform. I guess that is one way of doing it. I'm not sure it should matter who submits what and just let the fans decide, even if there are 20 designs to choose from. Since it's still exploratory stages, they could aggregate the votes and then adjust the designs to encompass the most popular ones to redesign a new Call. An iterative process would be interesting! The only counterpoint is it would be a lengthier process and they do need to progress beyond the design stage at some point. I still feel Call can be an exception and spent more time on with the fans.
A couple of the Calls that were first introduced should be presented in the voting system, as they were introduced to the fans very early in the stage. We start to like those designs.Β And I'd certainly be curious who'd outvote the other, the Roll-design, or the Legends pig-tailed design. Since both seem mighty popular, looking at all the fan art. Or perhaps neither would've won, and a new design dominate all!
Oh well, I wonder if anyone else feels the same or if it's just me.Β
But I felt quite a bit disappointed to not even give pig-tailed Call a fair chance to be out-voted.

I think they screwed the pooch in revealing the the Roll-style Call with the initial Mighty No. 9 reveal, as I'm sure people got accustomed to her and she's gonna end up winning the vote.
Not that I have a problem with that, I'm one of those people.

Which one did you vote for? My first impression when I saw the Calls... A and B were certainly "interesting" because they are very different from the Call designs we first saw. And then I saw the Roll one and began scrolling down even further to find the pig-tailed one but was saddened not to see that design.Β
I'll vote when I have a clearer thinking process.
