From Puccini's opera, the tragic story of Butterfly.

Pinkerton, marries the 15 year old Butterfly in a Japanese wedding ceremony. He tells his friend, Sharpless, "I must have her, even though I injure her butterfly wings".

Pinkerton leaves her in Nagasaki, returning to America where his Japanese marriage is not recognized. He takes an American wife.

Butterfly, pregnant and alone delivers Pinkerton's child. Although shunned by her people and renounced by her family, she waits for Pinkerton to return. At long last, he returns to Japan with his wife, intending to take his child back to America. Butterfly, heartbroken by the news that he has not come back for her, falls on her father's knife, ending her life.
