“They’re pagans Deirdre… can we truly trust them?” Séamus trusted his daughter but still had misgivings as to Gunnhildr’s family, there was too much history between his people and hers, almost all of it bad.
“We were the same once… If we can change so can they.” Deirdre jumped to her friend’s defense.
He remained unconvinced.
“We shall see- they have rejected their old gods, but they are not of The Faith yet…”
“I’ll do what I can to change that- we’re going riding this afternoon and we’ll likely have time to talk. Those Norsemen are a stubborn lot, worst enemies we’ve ever had, but the best allies too…”
They travelled armed, not out of fear but it never hurt to be prepared and as Thorkild fought to control his horse the Irishwoman took the opportunity to mock him, but only in jest.
