Thanks. The creature started out as a bird but I was too lazy to look for a bird reference so I just made him up.

My first thought was, that the background seemed a little flat, but there's actually a lot of details on it with the shadows and the colour-shifts.
The mistress herself is really creepy - which ofcourse is a compliment.

This is for a card game I am working on. They told me that the character is called Mistress of Shadow and that she is wearing a black wedding dress but that is just boring right? I spent some time figuring her head-dress but when I did, everything just fell together. I knew she will be holding a creature on her arm but the look of it is not set until it is time to work on him. I basically 'wing it" when working on these cards.

i love when things just work out, like an unexpected creative flow that just brings the picture to another level, those moments are what i live for. you sure did a great job spicing up her originally "boring black dress" as you put it, you really made it your own and rolled with it, wonderful use of creative license there. the head-dress looks unique to the piece, in a way it carries more mystery to the picture than the heads hanging at her waist or even the creature itself (though it does catch first glance from it bright color), because it urges the questions of "what is it connected to?" "why she wearing it?" or "does she have any hair" lol anyway not like i'm saying the heads don't have as much a impact on the pic 'cause they do, total shock value, but they basically scream why they r there, to darken the mood, show she's NOT a nice person.... dude looking back i realize i just wrote you a book... i'mma stop now before it get's longer...

hahaha thanks. I enjoyed the read. Of all the artwork I have done so far for this card game, this one is closest to the tone of my personal work and it is also my favorite.

well that's great, both for the fact that you didn't fall asleep halfway through my comment and that you were able to mix a bit of you into the cards! here is to hoping that more of the artwork for the cards have the feel that you closely associate yourself with!
