I lay, I lay, I lay, I lay
I lay my eyes on the devil
"Blue-eyed matador," I cry
"I fell for your wicked disguise!"
"Blue-eyed Matador" (Aurelio Voltaire)
A spooky fanart for the 4th book / 3rd audio book of Ghostsitter, "Dance of the Undead" - the first one where it really felt like All-Ager as a genre and "Shit's about to get real".
We get to know more about how trades in the Intermediate World work, as Tom agrees to an exchange with his archenemy Zoracz. What could possibly go wrong...
I always imagined Zoracz as a mixture of Mephisto from Goethe's Faust and "Wouldn't you like to buy this nice used car from Honest Pete's Used Cars...?", with the first part taking precedent in this episode of Ghostsitter. Not only does Zoracz get Tom stranded in a different time zone with the full intention of either leaving him there or even having him killed, we also learn that he was responsible for two more characters' fates (in one case, bringing about a person's death). This and his home turf-advantage makes him feel like a formidable villian, rather than the guy who tries to swindle Tom out of his property.
The song association comes from me listening to the album "Ooky Spooky" while reading the book. Here too, the subject is the trade-off for a soul, with a bait'n'switch at the end.
