Seriously though, I literally just saw the Death Battle bio of Lucy and that was my first exposure to her.  After seeing her backstory, I would suggest that she watch Paranorman.  I'm sure she would relate to the main antagonist of that movie.

Ah, Elfen Lied, [manga, not the anime]
a touching story of love, hatred [arms ripped off], forgiveness [disgusting bodily meltdown], moral dilemmas [incest] ambitious message on emotional needs [psychological issues], and of course, 2 easily likable protagonists that are introduced by a cliche, but both receive highly elaborate backgrounds [Lucy and Kouta]
