Description ".........., well......, what the fudge?!" - Prof. Anton Veeblefitzer, totally loaded on Klingon Blood Wine!

Ahem...., a classic Prof. A. Veeb' design, built in competition to the Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress", the Consolidated B-24 "Liberator", etc., etc., in the mid and late 1930's, in this particular alt' universe (Hey! The Prof. gets around, you know!)
Powered with 8 x Wright R-3550 radial motors, rated at over 2,000 hp each, the craft could attain speeds just exceeding 300 mph, unloaded of course.  Cruise speed was a more normal 240 mph.  Range was 3,000 miles.
It could carry a 10,000 lb bomb load, or an equal weight in cargo.
Armament consisted of 8 x 37mm Auto Cannon located in powered turrets along the fuselage.
Crew consisted of anyone who volunteered to fly in this thing.  However, the crew gave credit for the craft having outstanding visibility at all positions. Long tunnels in the "neck", and "tail" of this beast gave crew members access to their stations.
Pictured is the sole prototype, nicknamed the "Flying Brontosaur".
Asked why he designed the machine, as such, Prof. A. Veeb', could only burp out: "Why not (bloorch)?!"

(With credit to Ben Thomas, for the colorized photo of the WW2 bomber crew pictured, led by Lt. R.W. Biesecker, assigned to the 569th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, England, in 1944.  And with love and respect for all of those courageous crew members who fought to defend civilization)

Would be a good idea for a Rotodyne!
Shorten the wings, add a free spinning rotor with jets on the end to start them spinning!
Would be a interesting choice for the civil market after the war ends!

No Mr. Wyrick, I can see that it isn't liquor or even pot that you are using - it's LSD.

Naturally, this thing ran on Sinclair gasoline.

sorry it's a joke but the flying brontosaur is too heavy to fly and cause of accidental crashes.

I just did!
Wow!
What a highly developed predator!
It really would've challenged the classic tyrannosaurs if it had existed when they did.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Happy May!

Yeah! Maybe not in wits or sensory capability, but I think if the hump truly was covered in muscles its arms and legs might rip rexy to shreds.

And it might make for a very interresting aerodynamic surface giving the vessel a whole lot of yaw capability. But itll have trouble landing in crosswinds and have a lot less yaw stability

It's a great looking beast! The design should fly pretty well, actually. It's certainly going to have an unstable roll, but the canards/elevators should keep it stable enough!

Jimbowyrick1 In reply to DBrentOGara [2019-02-24 06:24:20 +0000 UTC]

You bet!
Typical Veeblefitzer genius!
(Except that the wings probably wouldn't be able to support four massive motors each!)
{Hey! How about a T-Rex bomber!?}

Hmmm....looks like the multi-great-grandaddy of the 25th & 26th-century Firefly-class cargo transport from the Joss Whedon series of the same name and the movie "Serenity". Except the wartime gunboat variant was the Cerberus-class.

Still...warms my heart to see the Flying Brontosaur...just shows how prescient the good Prof was in predicting such a design. Though I can only imagine the fun that would have been had if the B-100 was VTOL like the Firefly...8 Wright R-3550 motors would create a crap-ton of thrust upward

BlueEyedBrigadier In reply to Jimbowyrick1 [2019-02-24 12:50:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, Serenity was meant to be a future, space-faring version of a tramp freighter...old, resilient and able to haul cargo where you needed it to go with limited fuss. Aesthetics were not on the designer's mind when her class of vessel was thought up
