CAPSTAANG WEEK, DAY SEVEN:
18/7 SET THE PACE, ENERGIZE

Limited, sparse atmosphere
locked in too long with no fear
Shake out, break out, get it back now
Set the pace, energize, attack now—attack!

"Look, Twinkles, I know you're itching to shine those dancing shoes of yours... but I'm probably the last person you ought to do it with."

"Why not?" Aang protested, bouncing back and forth as he tugged her towards the clearing ( their makeshift "dance floor"). "With your earthbending, it's not like you'll be stepping on my feet—"

"Or you on mine. The way you're hopping about, you're practically walking on air already."

Aang glanced down and saw that he was, indeed, hovering some centimeters above the ground. "Whoops... sorry," he said sheepishly, dispelling his airbending and landing firmly on the flattened earth.

"Just so you know, I DO know how to dance already," Toph huffed, sounding slightly disgruntled. "So all this is totally unnecessary."

"Oh yeah?" He folded his arms and gave her a challenging look. "Then show me."

"Alright." Toph stood upright and took a deep breath, as if she was preparing herself before earthbending.

"The earth—" she extended her arms suddenly, and Aang took a startled step back— "is FLAT. On the earth is (she reached up and made a vague wavy motion with both of her arms, swaying) a TREE. Birds fly HIGH above the tree." She flapped her arms like wings.

Aang watched in blank astonishment as Toph continued, in what was obviously complete seriousness. "Water FLOWS beneath the tree—"

"Uh, Toph. Sorry to interrupt, but... what kind of dancing is—?"

"Interpretive dance. DUH."

"Oh. OHH, I get it." Aang coughed, desperately holding back the desire to laugh.

"Umm... you see, that doesn't really count as dancing."

"What do you mean, 'it doesn't COUNT'??"

"Well..."

"It's got the word DANCE in it, it's a dance." Toph frowned darkly at him, as if daring him to continue. "A VERY SPECIAL kind of DANCE, Twinkletoes, so don't diss it."

"I... was kinda hoping for the kind where we could... dance together?" he offered after a moment, semi-hopefully. "I know lots of easy dances, that two people can—"

"Are you PATRONIZING me?"

"What? NO!"

"Didn't think so." Toph shot another glare in his general direction, and he wilted a little under its harsh reproving light.

"...You can come and be a tree with me, if you want," she offered finally, in a more concilliatory tone. "Then maybe afterwards we can try these... 'easy' dances of yours."

"...Really?"

"Uh, yeah?"

"Really really?"

"...What. Did I stutter?"

"YESSS! I knew you'd come around, Toph!"

"Ack! Don't, stop— AANG, put me down!! Trees don't go randomly hugging people. Get into character already!"
