-Having been made with the power to control and manipulate shadows/darkness, she has a lot of neat little abilities that are tied to this— these are being able to see in the dark, travel through shadows/open portals wherever there’s darkness, access a shadow pocket dimension { of which she lived in prior to openly moving to the Dream Gate }, cloak herself in the darkness and create shadow shields.
-Similar to NiGHTS, she too can summon an invisible instrument out of thin air. Hers is a small harp.
-With her heightened sense of empathy, she’s capable of reading situations/the atmosphere well and vibes off of other’s emotions.

Background:
One of Wizeman’s earliest creations, Nyx was an experiment of sorts, Wizeman’s first ever attempt at making a sentient Nightmaren. The god of Nightmare had a grand vision for this new creation of his, a being set apart from the countless simpleminded 3rd levels he’d made prior, a being that would aid him in his quest to rule all of Nightopia. Carefully crafted was she, plucked from the deep shadows of Nightmare itself and granted the abilities of manipulating the very shadows she was borne of, though Wizeman knew better than to model her after a frightening beast like he’d done thus far with his other Nightmarens. Nay, if she was to be successful in the role he had intended for her she had to have a friendly appearance, unassuming and trustworthy as to lull the Visitors into a false sense of security. With a more humanoid build yet sufficiently whimsical to capture the spirit of his previous Nightmarens, he also opted to give her some form of empathy, a means of better ‘connecting’ and further deceiving her future victims.
Classing her a 1st level Nightmaren, the lord of Nightmares was all too eager to send her into the field, assigning her the simple task of stealing a Vistor’s Ideya. Naturally he figured she would fare well, Wizeman expecting nothing short of victory for he’d forged her with this sole purpose in mind, and with her doing his bidding how much closer his wicked desire of destroying Nightopia and reshaping it in his image was to becoming reality. Yet to his chagrin she failed in achieving this, his creation muttering something of not being able to harm the Visitor when she had returned before him empty handed. Unacceptable, how dare she defy him? Insult him by prioritizing the Visitor over her own creator? Inculcating compassion into her was to help serve her in deluding the Visitors she was on their side, not pity those miserable creatures and hesitate on carrying out what he had commanded her to do. The reluctance she displayed would not be tolerated, a weakness that Wizeman was sure to purge from her through merited punishment.
The manner she had disrespected him had been great but despite this offense he still demonstrated mercy and pardoned her, allowing her the chance to redeem herself if only because she was an important asset that he had gone through too much trouble in creating to just wipe from existence. With the harsh castigation she had received Wizeman strongly believed it to have smothered any insubordinate thoughts she might’ve had and been tempted to act upon, truly she would not be foolish enough to let this reoccur and earn his ire. Ah… how fallacious that notion would prove to be for even after what he had subjected her to, this behaviour of hers continued to rear its stubborn head. Sparing Visitors the fate of losing their Ideya, she would instead deliver to him the pathetic excuse of not finding it in herself to hurt them and more deplorable yet had the audacity of questioning why this was necessary, claiming they were innocent creatures undeserving of having something so precious taken from them.
Likes: The darkness, nightopians, NiGHTS, music, anything colorful, pulling small pranks, stars, hugs/cuddles, sleeping, sweets, tea, cute/smol anything, collecting things, stories, candles, music boxes, nice smelling things, bugs { she’s alright with them as long as they don’t suddenly move towards her }, rain puddles, wandering around nightopia.
Dislikes: Sudden loud noises/being startled, scary Nightmarens { i.e. Cerberus, Clawz, Donbalon, Reala etc etc }, attention being fully on her, disgusting food, being ignored or left behind { she enjoys being alone but not being left alone }, seeing others hurt/upset, her persona, noisy people, being clumsy { she’s as graceful as a newborn foal }, the feeling of being chained down, getting ordered around.
Extra:
-Nyx has spreckles, freckles that sparkle. This tends to give her away whenever she’s hiding in the dark if she doesn’t cloak herself well.
-She has extremely sharp teeth, very fang like.
-Those gold bells on the end of her head-tails are real, they do make noise. And honestly if her spreckles aren’t the things giving her away when she’s concealed, then it’s most certainly these little bells of hers.
-Gets flustered relatively easy.
-Can be very brutally honest, the reason behind this being that she’s had a very limited amount of interactions in her past, thus her social knowledge is zero to none. This has changed a bit though in recent times and she’s a smidge more careful with her words, but she’s still plainspoken.
-Has the habit of tugging on her headpieces whenever she’s nervous, and boy does she get overwhelmed easily.
-TERRIFIED OF WIZEMAN. ALSO HATES HIM.
-Has various mental scars from all the torturous punishment she received from Wizeman.
-The only ones that knew of her existence prior to being discovered were Wizeman and Owl.
-Unlike other Nightmarens, Nyx cannot fly.
-Having lived in the shadows for most of her long life, she has very little knowledge of the outside world and has a very innocent approach to everything unknown.
-Trips and stumbles over a lot due to never having ever walked anywhere before, only ever having traveled through portals of her shadow realm and basically never venturing out of said realm. She’s learning to control it though, even if it takes a while.
-In the last few decades of being in hiding and having no one to talk to, she’s gained a tendency to stutter now whenever she does talk to someone. Her anxiety/nervous nature as well helped in gaining this new habit.
-Rather easily intimidated by outward appearances and expressions and has a hard time being in social situations with those who look ‘scary’ to her.
-Despite her rather shy and quiet disposition, Nyx has a problem sitting still nowadays. Being constantly on the move helps keep her relaxed and calm, especially during rough times.
-Has a habit of making assumptions and is always putting precautions for every plan. When something good happens, rather then celebrating she is always looking for the “catch”. This manifested with her hiding away all those years from Wizeman.
-Quite oblivious towards certain situations. She doesn’t recognize a joke when told one, it’ll fly right over her head/fall flat and you’ll have to explain the punchline. And she’s naively unaware of any advances towards her— you can try, but it will most definitely fail. Horribly. Flirting goes right over her head. You’ll have to be direct with this one.
