I wouldn't use them as reference, seeing as I just made them up and are probably really inaccurate. Try looking up photos of a cutlass etc.

Let me speak briefly about this whole Pirates vs. Ninjas debate. First, let's examine their stereotypical fighting styles:
Pirate: Rush right in, cutlass raised, or guns blazing.
Ninja: Crouch behind something until target is in striking range.
Given this, the winner will most likely be the one with the field advantage. If there's a wide open space, the pirate will most likely win, because the ninja can't cower behind anything. But if it's a place with a lot of cover, the ninja will have many opportunities to win with his sneaky and underhanded tactics.
And that concludes my "unbiased" opinion.
