In Norse mythology, Mjolnir is the hammer of Thor, the god of thunder. Distinctivly shaped, Mjolnir is depicted as one of the most fearsome weapons in Norse mythology in late Icelandic sources. There, it is used to slay any challengers. Though generally recognized and depicted as a hammer, Mjolnir is sometimes referred to as an axe or club. Legends surrounding Mjolnir's origins vary: some relate that the Svartálfar Sindri and Brokkr made it at the command of Loki.

Mjolnir simply means "crusher," referring to its pulverizing effect. It is related to words such as the Icelandic verbs mölva ("to crush") and mala ("to grind"), but similar words, all stemming from the Proto-Indo-European root melə can be found in almost all European languages, e.g. the Slavic melvo ("grain to be ground") and molotu ("hammer"), the Dutch meel ("meal"), the Russian Молоток (molotok - "hammer"), the Greek μύλος (mylos - "mill") and the Latin malleus ("hammer") as well as the Latin mola ("mill"). The English meal, mill and maul are direct relatives, while mallet, "malleable" and molar arrived via Latin. It has been suggested that although the name reflects Mjolnir's awesome powers it might also allude to Thor's agricultural nature, as he was primarily worshiped by farmers.

Many practitioners of Germanic Neopagan faiths wear Mjolnir pendants as a symbol of that faith worldwide.

Good show, Bud. I enjoy the photo - but especially the neat bits of lore. Thanks for sharing.

Personally I have plans to carve my own, but owning a metal one would be good too, just not as personal!

Actually it was called Neopagan or pagan by the christians...so by the norse mythology it's just another religion. I could say that Catholicism is a pagan religion...thus being the same. And that Mjolnir looks made out of pewter...get a silver one.

There's a lovely occult site I know of that has many Pagan/Occult symbolic jewelry and other things.

Are you Norse Pagan yourself?

I used to be really interested in it about five years ago, but overtime it hasn't really stuck with me. Still, I do tend to wear my Mjolnir pendant a lot.

I need a Mjolnir pendant.
Yeah it's a very great religion, I love it, it's made my life more peaceful and better; no one really knows about Pagan religions anymore. It's like it's all about the three monotheistic religions. :/

It's been making resurgence in recent years mostly due to various pagan bands. Personally I got into it through various neo folk and viking/folk metal bands that have lyrics, themes or imagery present in their work. But, yeah, in the end people will always go for the typical religions, which just proves how similar and ultimately boring most people really are, haha. Yeah, get yourself a Mjolnir pendant. There are lots of online shops or even eBay seems like a good source.

Well true that. I love Viking/Folk metal and some Folk bands like Celtic Circle.
Yeah I know a great website that sells all Occult things. They are quite expensive but their jewelry is very beautiful and worth buying.

I allway though Mjolnir was a simple affair, but they looks quite pretty. I'd so love one of those.

I love the green in the background.

Strangely enough, I found one of these thors hammers at a local fair many years ago for like 5 bucks. I still have it some where. Mine is not as nice as yours though. Although mine did spark an interesting conversation with Dave Vincent after a MA show. Dave is quite the spokesmen for Norse Mythology

That's interesting to know. For some reason I would have figured David would have been more into the Satanic thing then the Norse mythology though.

I'm sure you could find one on ebay. At least that's where I got mine several years ago.
