Nature can be peculiar sometimes, huh? One species lives for about fifteen years while another can live for almost a hundred. I guess that's how it's meant to be... Still, even though humans can live practically forever, the good ones will stand by your side your entire life.

I remember when he first showed up in our town, we made him mayor, and I became his assistant. It was hard work, but together we made this town the best it could be. Through the moments and good times we've shared, I've grown to see him not as a boss, per se, but as a good, kindhearted friend.

Now... I'm old. My fur is turning grey, my joints ache when we walk together, and I get tired more easily, and yet the Mayor looks no different than he did when he stepped off that train all those years ago. So youthful, so radiant, so full of energy, time seems to have no effect on him!

We've grown so close over the years. We take comfort in each other's presence. I'm happy just being with him, and I'm sure he feels the same about me. If I had any regrets in life, it's that I couldn't be here longer to continue to make him happy... until the end...
