Description Zuko and Ursa: Last Reunion

Zuko lay on his back, trying to fall asleep, even though it was pointless. He tossed and turned for a few moments before taking a peek over at Aang who was lying next to him. The young avatar was fast asleep. Zuko turned away for a few moments before standing up.

It had been exactly two weeks since the group had been separated. They had been trying to rescue a town from the Fire Nation. He and Aang had been inside a burning building at the time and before they knew it, the whole place exploded and they were knocked out. When they finally came to, the rest group was gone. While Katara, Toph and Suki headed back to the Western Air Temple, Lin and Sokka had been captured.

Normally, Zuko would panic and try to rescue Lin, but surprisingly he wasn't worried. Lin was strong and could take care of herself. She and Sokka would escape before they could even touch them. Zuko stretched his arms before going over to the fire. After putting out the remaining flames, he walked back to his mat.  But before his head touched the soft surface, a sudden pain shot through his head, almost knocking him over.

It wasn't the first time that he had gotten this sensation. He had felt this when he was in the Boiling Rock and later he learned that his mother had been there. In fact, every time he had gotten this pain, his mother had been around.

"Does this mean that my mom is here?" Zuko thought, clutching his head.

Wherever she was, she had to be close because this had been the worse pain he had gotten so far.

Slowly Zuko began to walk up the hill in front of him, one hand on his forehead and the other on the hilt of his swords. When he got to the top, there was a Fire Nation camp in front of him.

At first, Zuko was horrified. His legs began to shake and he wanted to turn back. He wanted to run back to Aang, lie back down and forget that the camp was here. But the pain in his head told him to keep going, to find his mother. So he carefully walked down the slope and hide behind a tree.

The soldiers and guards were all gathered around the fire, either eating or discussing plans. Zuko directed his attention to one of the tents that a guard was standing in front of. Just looking at it made him dizzy. The tent had to be a prison tent because it was only one with a guard. Silently, Zuko crept to the back of the tent and sawed through the wall of the tent with his swords. He stepped inside and a horror met his eyes.

His mother was lying on the floor, unconscious. Her hair was a mangled mess, her clothes were torn, and fresh cuts were on her cheek and hands. Zuko could see that his beloved mom was a prisoner because a long chain was attached to her foot and one of the tent poles.

Zuko was so shocked; he didn't have enough time to take in any of his emotions. There was only emotion that was able to pass through him and that was panic. He rushed to Ursa's side. In one strike, he broke the chain around her ankle and turned her over. And he saw it. On her chest and close to her heart was a horrible wound. And what was worse, she wasn't breathing. Zuko then held his mother's body in his arms. After 5 minutes, Ursa stirred. She opened her eyes and breathed raspy.

"......Zuko....." she whispered "Is it really..." Zuko smiled, tears forming in his eyes. "It's me mom." He replied. "Oh my son!" she exasperated and she threw her arms around his neck. Zuko wrapped his arms around his mother. Tears began to fall down his cheeks. "I missed you" She whispered and kissed him on the cheek.

Miles away, Lin stood outside the western air temple, letting the summer wind blow on her face. Yet it stung the burns that were on her hands and neck. No matter how many times she tried to heal them, they would not go away. Man, sometimes it stunk to be a water and firebender.

Suki came in and stood next to Lin. She noticed Lin picking at her skin on the burns and knew that she was worried. "Don't worry Lin. Zuko will be fine. I'm sure he's on his way right now." Suki said assuring like. Lin didn't respond. Instead she stared at the approaching rain clouds. "Just get some rest Lin. The end of this war is coming." Suki then turned and started to leave but stopped when she heard Lin's voice.

"There's a storm coming. And we need to be prepared when it comes. Even the war began 100 years ago; the real war has just begun." Lin said and she turned to look at the surprised Suki.

Ursa looked at Zuko happily. Her son was all grown up. Slowly her hand reached up and touched Zuko's scar. Her dammed husband had injured her son. Zuko flinched but then held his mother's blistered hand. She smiled.

"I'm sorry I left." She whispered. "Don't be." Zuko replied. But Ursa had a right to be sorry. She had missed six years of her son's life and now she found him scarred. "Mom. There's something I have to tell you." Zuko started to say but Ursa finished him. "You're with the Avatar aren't you?" She said with a smile.

"How did you...;" "I knew you would." Zuko was surprised. How could his mother have known? Ursa just smiled. She then slipped something into his hand. Zuko looked at it. It was a Pai Sho piece. Zuko instantly knew what it meant. Ursa smiled at her son once more.

"I'm so proud of you." She whispered. Her breath started to break. "No. Mom. Stay with me." Zuko said panicky. Ursa eyes started to close. "Save the world.........Save the Fire Nation.....Zuko..." Ursa voice faded away.

"Mom!" Zuko squeezed his mother's hand. Ursa's eyes closed and a serene expression spread across her face. Her hand is Zuko's grip went cold and limp. She let out her last breath in a sigh.

Ursa, one of the leaders of the white lotus society, was dead. She died in Zuko's arms.

"No. No! Mom! MOM! NO!" Zuko shook his mother but it was too late. He held her body close to him before sobbing. As tears fell down his cheeks, a new emotion that had not been used in a while was stirring. Rage. Zuko's face burned with fury. He picked up his broadswords and let them flame. In one move he struck down the guard and did not stop there.

*****************************************************************

Not to far from the camp, Aang was sleeping peacefully. He was dreaming about Katara telling him that she loved him. Just as they were about to kiss, a loud bang awoke Aang from his dream. He turned his head quickly to see a bright orange light shining over the hills. Aang quickly turned to Zuko only to find that he wasn’t there. Uh oh. Zuko had to be involved with something bad. He scrambled to his feet and ran up the hill.

The Fire Nation camp that had been there was now in flames. The soldiers and guards were nowhere to be seen, but Aang knew that they were dead. Zuko stood in the middle of the camp, wreathed in fire. In his arms, he held his mother's body. As Aang walked closer, Zuko looked up. His face burned with anger. At first Aang thought that Zuko was going to attack him, but then Zuko's face melted from anger to sadness. He looked at his mother, before looking back at Aang. His cheeks stained with tears.

Aang instantly knew what had happen.

*****************************************************************

The rain fell down hard on Aang and Zuko. It was like the spirits were crying. Like they were mourning for the loss of Ursa. Aang stared straight ahead at the makeshift grave that they made for Ursa. While Aang bended the water away from himself, Zuko let it fall onto him. Aang could not help but feel sympathy.

Aang reached out and put his hand on Zuko's shoulder. With a simple gesture, they turned and continued to walk to the Western Air Temple. Zuko's mind only thought of one thing. "I will fight for my mother. I will not let her death be in vain."

When I first read the part about Lin, it seemed as if she had a certain gift to see the future. It's kind of like a 6th sense, a new form of knowing.

I'm thinking of writing chapters with events before this one. It'll start soon after Zuko joins the group and Lin will be there, of course.

Oh wow. Of course! I'm flattered. I can't wait to read it. BTW, Lin is an original character of mine, so I could help you out when it comes to doing scenes w/ her.

I think that you should use this chapter and make the fanfic into a whole story.
