Aerith's death

Zero walked down the empty street, with a single lamppost for his only light. His hand warily clutched "The Bloody Rose". Suddenly, he heard a noise. Zero wheeled around just as two Level E vampires dropped down from the roof above. Both of them had a gun in their hands. Shots ran out and a figure wearing a brown coat and a hat jumped in front of Zero. The figure collapsed into his arms. Zero unleashed his own gun and with a few shots the vampires were dead.

Zero slowly turned the figure over. As he did so, the figure's hat fell off to reveal its long black hair. "Aerith!" Aerith's eyes were half lidded and she could barely stand. "Aerith, why are you here?" Zero asked. "I-" Aerith breathed. But she stopped. Zero smelled blood. He looked down and saw a dark crimson spot spreading on Aerith's jacket. He quickly placed his hand over it, in an attempt to stem the bleeding. But as he attempted to lift her, Aerith made a yelp of pain. Zero instantly placed back down. He then felt something warm on his hand.

Zero was now desperately trying to suppress his need. "You need to be treated!" He attempted to lift Aerith again, but this time she grabbed his shirt. "I would rather be with you than a doctor..." Aerith moaned. "But-" Zero was frantic. "Please..." Aerith said desperately. Zero understood. Slowly, he inched under the lamplight, holding Aerith. Pools of blood appeared where he had been standing.

"Dear God." Zero whispered. "It's alright," Aerith whispered. "It doesn't hurt anymore." Aerith stared at the moon. Slowly, she turned to face Zero. She smiled. "Do you remember when I first came into your room? I saw all those things that were used for hunting vampires. I was amazed that someone so brave would live in my house. And I wondered if someone like that could love someone like me. A vampire...I don't want to deceive you anymore."

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. "This is for you Zero." With one arm, Zero opened the paper and his eyes widened. "This is a letter from Yuuki!" he exclaimed. "I didn't want you to see her... so I kept it." She muttered. For a moment, hey said noting. Zero held Aerith. He could feel her becoming heavier in his arms. He leaned down and hugged her. Slowly, Aerith reached up and touched Zero's hair."There is a cure." she whispered.

"What!"; Zero asked. "There is a cure for vampires." Zero could not believe his ears. "But that's impossible!" "No it's not. I discovered it several days ago," Aerith explained. She tried to take in a deep breath, but it was difficult. "You have to drink the blood of all 5 pureblood vampires. Yuuki, Kaname, Shizuka, Rido, and myself." Zero was stunned. Aerith? A pureblood vampire? "My mother was a pureblood vampire. She died when I was an infant, but her blood runs through my veins. Zero, you have to drink my blood..."

"But you'll die!" Zero would not do it. He would not be the cause of Aerith's death. He did not want her to die because of him. "Please Zero." Aerith whispered "It will be my last gift to you. And if you drink my blood, I will be a part of you." She smiled. Zero tried to hold back tears. He lifted her up, but she grabbed his shirt again. "Please...a little bit longer." she moaned."Hang in there, Aerith!" he cried. Aerith looked into Zero's eyes. They were full of sorrow. "Zero...do you hate me?" she asked. Zero forced himself to smile. "No, I love you. You've always helped me. Even now you did!" Aerith smiled once more. "I'm glad...Zero...promise me one more thing."

"What?" Zero asked. "When I am dead...please kiss me on the forehead..." Zero's eyes widened again. "Don't worry, I feel it." Aerith whispered. Her voice was growing softer. "Zero...I think.......I was......a little bit...in love.....with you..."Aerith's voice trailed off and her breath stopped in a sigh. Her eyes gently closed as if she was falling asleep. Zero gasped as her arm limply fell to the side. Aerith Cross was dead.

Zero closed his eyes, fighting back tears. Slowly he leaned down...and kissed Aerith's lips. He then lifted her up closer. "Aerith," He whispered as tears fell down his cheeks. "I'm so sorry." He then moved his mouth down to her throat and sank his teeth into her neck.
