Description From my physical art collection

Nothing like that first pot of joe in the morning. No I don't think she's planning on sharing. Do you have any idea just how much it takes to get her motor started each morning?

I bet a good cuddle gets her started right.

It boggles my mind that you have so much of Ric Quiroz's works. I loved his work growing up, and it never ceases to amaze me that there's even more of it.

I had the very good fortune to have met Ric when he was just released from his latest animation job and looking to break into the Ebay / Science fiction/Fantasy convention circuit. I was privileged to know him and his wife (occasional colorist/manager) Laura for the rest of his life.  Helping promote his art, Ric was also a regular contributor to a fanzine (amateur fan magazine I ran at the time caked Project: Taur. So I was privileged to in a position to get lots of his art.

When Laura was cleaning out his old art piles after his death, I was also able to acquire many of his blue line drawings. As an animator, he often did this work first before making the final image on commissions.

Believe it or not, I was a long distance friendship. One of my friends lived much closer and has even more of Ric's work. Hopefully, I will be able to share that hoard as well as my own collection in the future. I still have lots more to scan/share, as I would like others to be equally inspired by his works, both in cartoons as well as away from the small screen.

I remember when I was younger, I found a lot of his arts. I always loved his mermaid and lamia arts, especially the cocoon transformation he did on lamia. I had a lot saved, but the hard drive that I have his stuff saved burned out. I could have the data recovered, but that's expensive. I'd like to one day lol.

I look forward to see more of his arts being posted. Thank you so much!

Funny you should mention the lamia......

Sadly Laura's hard drive had a similar failure. Being a computer paranoid after a similar problem long ago, I now have my primary drive, a secondary back up, a tertiary drive to back them up, plus cloud. I used to be more active about a physical drive until it just got too large, but at least I have the originals. One can't be too careful... (lol)

As for recovery, it might not be as expensive as you think. If the drive still works but you just can't access it, there are a few potential solutions. First would be just an external case (shell) that connects via USB (roughly $10 to $30 depending on bells / whistles / design). All you need do is hook up the drive and you should be able to access the files. (It can also be used to make a bare hard drive into an external drive for back up). If the drive "index/directory" has been corrupted, there are software programs that were developed for SD cards / Cameras that also work on hard drives. These range in price from Free - just be careful as some supposedly free ones are only teasers showing what you could recover with the more expensive paid version, to reasonable price about $20 - $50 dollars, to professional level programs $100+.

But if the drive is nonresponsive, you're right that the pro's will have to get involved. Their only saving grace is that they don't charge if they can't recover any data. You just have to make sure they recover what you want and not charge you big bucks for trivial nonsensical data or programs you could (have) easily reinstalled.

The problem with the drive is that the mainboard of the drive is dead, I do believe that the data platters, in itself, is still intact.

That can go either way with recovery. Sometimes the external support can bypass that. But you're right usually a professional lab has to dissect the drive and get data from the platters directly. Unfortunately most recovery options still base their prices on the days were hard drives could be measured in 2 digit GB. And low ones (32GB) at that.
