You made mold of something and then you poured in the fiberglass resin.Β

Is that how you made the prop I assume ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JMKohrs In reply to Venegal [2014-11-15 19:52:18 +0000 UTC]

Correct. Β It is resin cast out of a silicone mold of a clay sculpture.

Good God, I'd get a pair of those in a heartbeat. How long did this take?

JMKohrs In reply to MagicEmperorJoe [2013-04-30 03:00:34 +0000 UTC]

Overall a few days. A couple to get the sculpt right, a day for molding it, and another for casting and painting.

These are so cool!
I'd love to buy a pair, but I wonder, are they balanced? It'd be great to use these for games, but if they're not random it'd be a shame. Though they'd still make awesome decorations ^^

JMKohrs In reply to LookingNotSubmitting [2012-10-25 20:03:28 +0000 UTC]

They are pretty balanced. I played Clue with these dice and they didn't affect the gameplay at all. They are a little more clunky due to their larger size, but they still work very well.

Pricey, but awesome

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JMKohrs In reply to karlanvomega [2012-10-25 20:07:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes they are a tad pricey, but I feel it's a fair price for the time I put into them. I sculpted the dice in clay, made a mold off the sculpt, cast the dice in fiberglass resin, and then handpainted every single one. So a lot of work goes into each individual dice.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

karlanvomega In reply to JMKohrs [2012-10-25 23:01:50 +0000 UTC]

Oh no don't get me wrong, I think the price is fair, they look like they take a lot of effort
What isn't fair is that I can't afford them

shinkuirochou [2012-10-25 13:31:58 +0000 UTC]

I don't mean to sound offensive, but $40 for these is a bit much. There are sets of 7 dice made of precious metals and gemstones that are cheaper than these...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NingNinja In reply to shinkuirochou [2012-10-25 14:55:43 +0000 UTC]

And those are probably mass produced by a bigger company.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JMKohrs In reply to NingNinja [2012-10-25 20:15:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that is probably true. I'm making each dice individually by myself. I don't have an assembly line making them. So when you buy a set of dice, you are mostly paying for the time I personally put into making them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NingNinja In reply to JMKohrs [2012-10-26 11:04:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's more or less what I was trying to put into words. These are one of a kind and you have a right to price them at what you feel they're worth.

Btw, have they been selling?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JMKohrs In reply to NingNinja [2012-10-27 01:09:22 +0000 UTC]

I did sell one set yesterday. I'll have to get going on casting and painting some more!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NingNinja In reply to JMKohrs [2012-10-27 11:48:21 +0000 UTC]

Then the price tag is fully justified! Best of luck for the future my friend!

LynxVSJackalope [2012-10-25 12:47:06 +0000 UTC]

Nice!! I love them. They look like great Day of the Dead decorations too! Are they the actual size of dice, or are they larger?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JMKohrs In reply to LynxVSJackalope [2012-10-25 20:09:59 +0000 UTC]

They are larger than standard dice. They are roughly 1 inch x 1 inch.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Pimpleman [2012-10-25 11:52:35 +0000 UTC]

But are they weighted properly enough to be random?
