The compelling part of the image, for me at least, is the apparent conflict between the subject and its environment. If most people are like me, they have a reflexive association between kangaroos and desert environments. Seeing them prance in the snow is a bit like the first time you see pink flamingos around a high-mountain lake in the Andes - you do a double take.
