Hey sorry what is the HDR thing? is it a programe? And whats your take on the wide angle lens you bought? I've been thinking of getting one, currently still working on which brand to take. Depending on the brand, the difference in price can be quite alot, so I'm trying to get feed back from people who own different wide angle lenses, if you don't mind, maybe you could tell me about your tamaron and how it fairs upon a scale of 1-10

First, HDR.... [link] aka, High Dynamic Range Imaging. The program that I use for this is Photomatix Pro. I have a HDR gallery, u can see exactly what it does just by looking at some of those photos. its an awesome process, and mildly addicting!

My lens is the Tamron 10-24mm that was released in November. I am happy with it, and it would work on your D40 since it has a built-in focusing motor. I believe the Sigma 10-20mm is HSM (built-in motor) and is a very popular unit also. I decided to be different, and get the extended focal length and that it was a little bit faster. However, although I have never used the Sigma, I think its sharper than the Tamron.

i still have a desire to try the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 to see if that's worth having as a second lens or to replace my Tamron. the constant f2.8 would be sweet!

Hmm thx for the link, much appreciated, but what do ya mean by constant F2.8?

it will hold a constant f-stop of 2.8 through out the whole focal length. when your lenses say 16-85mm f3.5-5.6, that means its maximum aperture is f3.5 at 16mm, but when you zoom into 85mm, your max is f5.6.

Ahh I know whatcha mean now, It's I get that on my lenses, hmm but a lens that could hold at 2.8 is pretty expansive isn't it...btw how come you don't wanna use the nikon made wide angle lens, i think its 10-17? or something like that, just wanna hear your view on it

they have a 12-24 f4 and its expensive in comparison. this image [link] was shot with the nikon 12-24mm lens, although it was not mine.

a 10-17mm is a fisheye lens that Tokina offers.

as far as pricing... (www.bhphotovideo.com)

tokina 11-16mm f2.8 is only $570
Sigma 10-20mm is $480
Tamron 10-24mm for $475

and yet the Nikon 12-24mm f4 is $870

Hmm wide angle lenses seem to be alot cheaper there than here. The nikon 12-24 f4 cost about 1.9k SGD which is about 1.2k USD. Anyway I was reading off kenrockwell.com that he said the sigma was the cheapest of them all and would auto focus on a D40, but he did say he wouldn't trust a sigma's lens durability, any comment on that? Or would you recomend your tamaron?

See =DennisChunga and =Goodfoot42
they both shoot the sigma. Goodfoot's even took a swim recently in the ocean.
