Description This is CF Soleo and DD Gualtiero at the Iberian Horse Show competing in Bloodless Bullfighting.

I find it rather sad that in this photo my bull anatomy isn't that shabby, but my horse anatomy is Hiroshima worthy. Never drew a view like this before.

I was going to name it Soleo meets Goyo, but I thought that as soon as people saw this photo, they would think it was a real bull fight because they wouldn't see the velcro padding, so I changed it.

But yes there is velcro padding on his shoulders, and the bandeirilha (coming out of his back) is velcroed as well. The rider is also riding Soleo with no bridle, which as I found out today some Cavaleiros (riders) ride with no reins. Since I don't think reins have much use in an event like this, I chose not to draw them.

This also happens to be Soleos first adult picture. He is an Azteca, which is a great breed to use for these events (quarterhorse x lusitano).

Oh and the rider is shaking his finger at the bull which I've seen done before. Some pet their head, or shake a fist. And his tail is loose and flowing to tease the bull.

i do hate bull fighting, but this is a "humaine" bull fight... but still hate them

on the other note: love the view point and the colors of the bull and the horse! definite fave!

Yeah even after the bloodless bull fights the bull is taken in back where it's killed any way. I don't know if they have to follow the same humane practices as the US does or not. I know we have fights in California but don't know if they have to be regulated or not.

that's a shame... i don't understand why people would do that to another creature... still, i love your picture! it is one of bull fighting that i acutally enjoy

I wish all bullfights were like this... well, besides from that they should be stopped all together

using velcro stuff is way better than spears [obviously xD] and your horse anatomy is absolutely fine

Whoa, this is awesome, I think you're just paranoid! All my horses are basic square sets. So, you win! Good luck with the show (I know it is totally over but it is never too late to wish you luck!)

How in the world did you pull off the anatomy on the horse AND bull at such an angle?!?!

And the coloring... Makin' me droll on the desktop as usual.

I adore how you used the velcro on the bull. I saw a type of 'bloodless bullfight' on TV once, and the bull came charging out with tags in his back and blood streaming down his back! I was pretty po'd. It's pretty amazing to see people dare to break tradition for the good of the animal.

>_< I don't know how I did it. I've had the image in my head for a long time now of this horse and bull like spining ina circle around eachother. And since I was working all day today, I knew the only chance I had to finish it was last night. 5 hours later it was done x_x and today, I was sooo flipping exusted with working from 8am to 11pm.

Now that's some dedication! Very few people will put so much into art - It's a VERY admirable quality. Let me tell you, though, your dedication definitely was a success!

The angle here is fantastic. I love the way the horse's tail is whipping in the bull's face.

*pees self* This is so uber.
Each time I try to draw a bullfighting scene, I can never get it to look like I want to, because I always strive to get that feeling of intense movement, suspense, fear, passion and energy, but never succeed. Like when the horses spin or run in those incredible moves, as shown here. I wish I could grasp that like you did. I just love the movement in the hair (bull & horse's tails), it really looks like they're dancing together in a sort of spin. And, this is totally starting up your new project nicely. I read that that famous bullfighting horse Merlin (Orpheo) is actually a Lusitano with a bit of QH, so, an Azteca like this guy. :] Soleo should be able to royally whoop ass, that means.

Anyway, thank you, wise one! I adore Goyo and I don't know what you're rambling on about for Soleo. They both look awesome, so hush.

*blush* thank you very much. I felt horrible because I rushed this so badly, I tried to really try Goyo for you, I think he came out more cute then fierce LOL.

JNFerrigno In reply to Coriouna [2010-05-02 03:48:31 +0000 UTC]

No bridle, he's not using reins, only leg movements. But mostly these horses, like Quarterhorses, respond to the bull on their own

Whoa, that some pretty awesome action! I almost had the feeling of my breathing stopping just so I can see if the horse comes out of it unscathed!

Anyways this looks really good, the angle is something I envy XD and I love the color contrast
