I designed this LEGO® ship as a commission for the ship builder STX Europe. The theme was "Future Ferry". The model was built by me on the Seatrade Europe Exhibition in Hamburg in September 2009.

I designed the Future Ferry from scratch, it's not a model of a real ship. My idea was to build a fast catamaran ferry for medium or short range transport of different vehicles (cars, trains/monorail) and passengers. Lots of glass is used to give light and transparency and to allow train passengers to stay in the train if they want to.

Vehicles are able to roll on and off through 6 doors/portals in bow and stern of the ship. There are two train rails in the two catamaran hulls and five car tracks in the middle.

Passengers can stay in the middle deck where there is seating, windows and a long gallery outside. Or they can book a little cabin in the upper deck including an own private balcony. In the stern is a two level restaurant and a sky bar at the top with panorama sight.

To make things more interesting I choose a scale where it is possible to model some of the interior and have some cars and micro figures to liven up the model. The scale of the model is 1:125, the size is about 66cm x 26cm.

The model was built up segment by segment from a lot of smaller modules, allowing visitors of the exhibition to participate by building a part of their own by copying an existing module.
